If you don’t want to read the full story there is a summary at the bottom. I desparately need advice!
We ordered my FH’s wedding ring two weeks before Thanksgiving in 2012 from Zales. They said that it would take 6 weeks to come in. So, approximately 8 weeks later we drove up to the store (it is about 2 1/2 hours away near his parents house) to pick it up while we were visiting. We went in and they asked if we had received a call saying that it was ready. We hadn’t, but I explained that it has been longer than 6 weeks so I figured it would be there.
It wasn’t there. They talked in whispered voices to the manager, looked everywhere, and were putting things into the computer. Finally, the came up to us and told us that it would take 6 more weeks because the ring was “delayed”. Well fine… we had plenty of time, so we left.
About seven weeks later we went back in. It was still not there. They told us to come back in a couple of weeks. I called and called to stay on them about it. Finally, they told us that it was in the store. We drove up there to pick it up and it was too big. But at that point we didn’t want to deal with the store anymore and we knew that we would be able to exchange it after the wedding for the right size. We were ready to just leave with it.
They told us that we owed $250. We payed for the original ring in full and that was the price of the original ring. I sat there arguing with them about and standing my ground. They asked if we had the receipt (which we did not, it was at home… 2 1/2 hours away). They also told us to take that ring home with us we would have to exchange the original ring for it. We never received another ring. There was no other ring. Then they told us that we had ordered it in a different size. We told them that we had not, we had never received a ring, and that this is the first ring we had ever seen. Finally, they realized that they had messed up and the first order had never gone through correctly. So we had two orders open, the ring was attached to the second order, and we had paid for the first order. They could not combine them into two and told us that we had to come back the next day.
We were not able to come back the next day as we had driven in from out of town. So they offered to overnight the rings to our local Zales (we were at an outlet store). This was on Wednesday and they said the rings would be overnighted on Thursday so that they would arrive by Friday. On Friday, the rings were not at our local Zales. We called the original Zales and they reported that they would send it out that day (Friday) and that it would be there the next day.
I was done with it. I said I wanted a refund. They said that they could be store credit. I told them I did not want their store to have my money and that they would give me a refund or I would file a report with the BBB. They are sending me a refund in 3 weeks (supposedly).
TLDR/Summary: Zales sucks. It tooks us almost 5 months, multiple trips to a store, tons of phone calls, and two actual order to finally get a wedding ring in the wrong size and they still wouldn’t give us the ring. So I canceled the order.
But now we have the problem of having 55 days until the wedding and no wedding ring. Is it too late? Will we be able to order one in time?
