My boyfriend asked me how I felt about him asking my parents for their blessing for two reasons – one, they live far away from us and asking in person is very difficult and two, he wanted to be sensitive to my women’s rights ways. In any case, I told him that I would love it if he asked both my mom and dad, and that phone was ok. I think my parents are pretty excited about him asking them – it’s not a permision for them – for them it’s letting them know that they are soon going to be parent’s of the bride. I think it helped my BF to think of it like that (he’s a little nervous)
At the same time, I asked my boyfriend to wait until the last minute because my parents are terrible at keeping secrets, especially since they are now on facebook! A week beforehand is probably the max that they can keep it a secret, and the last thing I want is to call my grandmother to find out that she already knows!

Sister’s husband asked our permission in early January and proposed about 8 weeks later. She got sick for a while (nothing life-threatening, but was under the weather for a few weeks). The day of the proposal he actually had it all planned but she was still feeling poorly and almost messed it all up! Somehow he got her out of the house, though.

Fiance asked both my parents the night before the proposal. He knew they couldn’t keep a secret any longer than 24 hours! Lol

We agreed to get married and ordered a ring. A few days later, he asked my parent’s permission, just for fun. Then we made the announcement to everyone. There was no “proposal,” because we see it more as a mutual agreement, no need for the theatrics (no offense to anyone else, I get it!). We went smoothly into wedding planning, and now we’re married…yay!

The BF asked my dad for he and my mothers blessing last memorial day. So it’s been almost a year and no proposal yet. He told me it will “for sure” happen this year so I’m really, really hoping it happens on our 3 year in June.
Sending good vibes your way!!
