I already LOVE these boards! Thanks for posting your experiences and what you guys did! So many different things!
We’re making a big move in August, I figure once we get settled in our new place and new jobs, then we’ll talk about dates!!

Congrats on your engagement!!!
We set our date within 2 days of getting engaged. Being that I wanted to get married in California in the summertime meant that we had to decide right away whether we wanted to wait another year or get married this summer. This summer won ;]

I’d say it was within a week or so. I suggested Christmas, which he vetoed because he didn’t want it so close to the holiday and you can’t trust the weather up here. We decided on fall because we LOVE that time of year…and it’s when we met. =-)

We won’t be able to set a date until October because of our venue, 14 months after getting engaged, and we only set the month/season a couple of months ago.

it took us months (like 4-5) before we got a date…

About 19 days! We wanted to set it immediately, but were planning long distance and that’s the earliest we could start looking at venues.

We set our date two months after getting engaged. There was no rush since we knew we’d have a longer engagement.
We’re doing a destination wedding and had our pick of Saturdays in May 2011. We chose the date we did (Memorial Day weekend) because it meant one less day people would have to take off work.

People always ask if you’ve set a date right after you’re engaged, I don’t know how they expect you to decide that quickly. I feel like they ask because they think they should. I think we set the date about 3.5 months later. Before we could settle on a date we needed a general time of year we wanted, a location, I coordinated availability with my BMs (one is graduating med school), a general headcount, we figured out a budget and then we went venue shopping to find what we liked and what their availability was.

Well, fiance was only in town for a quick ski trip and to propose … we talked to the priest within 2 days, picked a venue, set the date and booked the venue before he left to go home. Engagement day to wedding day, just over 5 months. 🙂

We set the date the next day. He proposed to me on March 18th at the place we knew we wanted to get married at and when we met with the lady the next morning she said it was either June 26th (someone else had to cancel) or not until April of next year, we then decided to have a three month engagement.

We actually waited quite awhile to set the date. We were engaged for a little over 2 years before the ceremony! We waited I think for like 7 months or so to officially set it. We had some major factors contributing to it though. Our big thing was working around the bridal party graduation. Most everyone in the bridal party was graduating from college right around the time of our wedding and it didn’t help that there were multiple different schools involved lol It all worked out, but the best man had it the worst for sure – he had to drive 6 hours to his school after the reception ended to graduate the next morning. Props to him for sticking it out.

We got engaged April 16th of this year…and by April 24th we had a venue and reception. We decided on April 16, 2011 exactly one year after Teddy proposed 🙂

We set the date a few weeks after the proposal…we decided on a location and venue and then knew we wanted it to be in June 🙂 The date in June wasn’t significant to us before…but obviously it always will be now 🙂 It was just a Saturday that was avaliable at our choice local 😉

I bought my dress before we picked a date!
I got engaged on April 11 of this year, and we set the date about 3 weeks ago.
So… about a month and a half!
When i called my friends and family a COUPLE HOURS after I got engaged people were asking about a date!!!!!!!

we got engaged in 07…. talked a LOT about dates for a long time, but only really set one (still semi tentative, we are waiting for disater to strike lol) in jan/feb 09.. so a little over two years.
We announced our engagement at my FHs family Thanksgiving dinner, Grandma A had just given her blessing/congratulations and was litterally mid sentence
“So have you picked..?”
…when Future Father-In-Law decided it was an epic (and *super* appropriate) time to announce his engagement/pending nuptials to his (then) girlfriend, a mere 4weeks away. I have to admit, his families reaction was pretty priceless.
O.O WTH!?!?! and confusion all around.
I was super ticked then, but now laugh about it as it is a perfect example of FFILs tendency to rush into things/not really think things through before making plans.
Since then no one has really asked, expect my super awesome Maid/Matron of Honor.
