we are going on a delayed honeymoon (2 months later) as we figured the weather will be better and we will have something to look forward after the wedding plus we will be mroe relaxed for the wedding not worryin about packing to go on a plane striaght away.
we will be going away for a month.
Question – if we are getting married on the saturday, how long before and after would you take off work?
im just weighing up if i would need more time before or after?

My wedding is this coming Saturday. I took 10 days total off. Sunday 10/16 through weds 10/26 off. Im also a student so i needed time to get through my work so i dont have anything due during our wedding weekend!! Our honeymoon is also delayed until January. Hope this helps! We just finished packing up the car and are driving out tomorrow!! So excited 🙂

I plan to take off the Thursday and Friday before my Saturday wedding, and tentatively I’ll remain off work for three weeks after my wedding. We want to plan a honeymoon that’s 10-14 days long, so that will allow us a few days after the wedding before we leave, and a few days at home after returning, before I have to go back to work.

Hey! I took a week but only becuase at that point I had to… every single waking moment was filled with last minute preparations, plus I had visitors to entertain! But it wasn’t enjoyable picking up my dress the day before the wedding or spending the day before that putting table decorations into plastic bags.
So it comes down to how prepared you are. If you think you’ll be on track, you don’t need much time off. I recommend doing everything you can to make that happen NOW. It is horrible doing things last minute.
You’re already taking a month for the honeymoon so I’m guessing you won’t leave yourself much (or any!) annual leave if you also take a week pre/post wedding. Save the holiday time for later in the year when you have post-honeymoon blues. Trust me, that’s when you’ll enjoy it more.

We took off the Thursday/Friday before our Saturday wedding to run errands and meet up with family. We had access to the property all day Friday so we were there at 9am setting up and decorating all day. Luckily enough, the Friday a week before the wedding was Good Friday and I was off of work so I had a 3 day weekend the week before our wedding to get extra extra work done which worked perfectly.
If I wasn’t going straight on the honeymoon I still would probably take Monday off… Sunday you’ll be exhausted and want to mingle with family and guests as they depart. Go back to work on Tuesday.
Otherwise, we took off the entire next week for our cruise honeymoon and started work the following Monday afternoon I believe?

I am getting married on December 18, a Sunday. I took off Friday before the wedding and Monday-Thursday after the wedding. Friday after the wedding and Monday after the wedding are company holidays for Christmas. So I took off 5 days but am going to be away from work for 7 days, total.

I took only one day off before (Friday). We went on our honeymoon the Monday after the wedding. Honestly, I would save some of your PTO for the holidays instead of the wedding. Unless you have a crazy amount of time to do things before the wedding, you’ll just sit around bored and stress out about stuff. You really don’t need time after either. You just go home, unpack, and that’s that until the honeymoon. (unless you are moving in with your Darling Husband for the first time after the wedding? you would obvious need a few days then for that)

Getting married Saturday. I was supposed to work today but I traded my shift, so I’ve been off since about noon Monday. Going back to work on Tuesday but I’m on call on Monday so could conceivably be called in to work (cross fingers). We’re going away for a 10 day honeymoon in a couple months.

I took off the Friday before my Saturday wedding, and the Monday after. There was really not a justifiable reason to miss much more than that, everything was done and family didn’t start arriving until that Thursday night. I am also a teacher, so it is difficult for me to miss even a day of work. The Monday after we used for running some errands, starting my name change process, and taking a good long nap. Our honeymoon was a few months later, and I used built in holiday time for that and didn’t take any off. I can’t fathom having a job where you can take a whole month off!!

happybridetobee2017 : I ended up taking the week before and after off. I could have gotten away with 3 days before and the week after but it was nice to sleep in for 2 days 🙂
