I call after I don’t get a response to an email. While emailing again works in some circumstances (brings it back to the top of their inbox), I think using a different form of communication usually is best.

It depends on the time sensitivity of it. If it isn’t urgent, I usually give them 5 – 6 days to respond before I check in again. If there is time sensitivity (money, booking dates, etc), then I call after a day and a half or two days.

@rusticbee2014:  Yeah, I agree I prefer to email. And most of my vendors are great with it – but one is awful. It’s just the way he is. But he’s great in person.

What I do after a phone conversation is send an email documenting what we discussed, what I understood their commitments to be (pricing, timeline, contract, whatever), and ask them to reply back either confirming that everything I captured was correct or correcting anything I got wrong. I tell them on the phone call at the end that I’m going to be emailing them a recap and would they please check over it because there is so much info, I just want to make sure all my notes were right.

@rusticbee2014:  Did you send a second email? Sometimes things get lost or people get overwhelmed.

I emailed a photographer and it took her weeks to get back to me, and I realized if this person is this flakey do I really want to give them my bussiness?

@rusticbee2014:  +1 to what @AlexisA said. Unless they had an emergency or some REALLY great excuse for why they didn’t reply over that period of time (even after you sent a second email), they’re too flakey to deal with on something as important and overwhelming as your wedding day. Find someone else who is fabulous and actually knows how to answer emails!

I’m glad someone brought this up. I just had to get on my caterer for not acknowledging my emails for the THIRD time. I put my deposit down in July and at that time was back and forth with the banquet manager who was very fast to respond. I have emailed her three times since (once in Jan, Feb and again last week) with different requests and each time at least a week has gone by before I have spoken to someone else because *I* called up to point out that I hadn’t had a response.

I asked my sister, who is in event catering if this is normal and she said that while it’s not professional, it’s not totally abnormal depending on the caliber of the vendor. I am getting quite a deal from this vendor and they are not the most formal, but for the most part that has worked to my advantage. I still made it a point to say that it is reassuring for me to receive a response so that I know that my messages are received, even if they can’t be responded to at length right away.
