I think 10 pounds is great for less than a month. Even though your clothes may not be fitting differently, remember muscle weighs more than fat. If you just started working out (and depending what kind of shape you’re in) you are most likely building muscle so the fact you’ve still lost 10 pounds is great. Remember it’s a journey and there aren’t quick fixes but celebrate the little victories and it will help you stay motivated. Keep up the great work!

Just fyi last year my resolution was to get in better shape and get in the habit of working out. Over the last year I’ve lost maybe 5 to 10 pounds total but I’ve lost fat and gained muscle so even though I haven’t lost much weight I am much leaner than I was when I started 2015! I started around 120 and am now around 110-113 depending on the day.

They say it takes 4 weeks for you to notice the changes in your body, 8 weeks for those that see you regularly, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world. It seems long but if you want truly lasting results they take time, there is no quick fix or remedy. You’re doing great!

Make sure to measure as well! It may not look like you’ve had any changes, but tape measure could say otherwise!

10 pounds, thats awesome!

Try taking photos of yourself as you go and compare them side by side.

I honestly dont put much stock in what the scale says, I go by how my clothes fit. I’m sort of petite at 5’4″, so even a 5lb loss is noticeable (to myself) and I first notice a size reduction in my middle, and my face. It really is what I’m eating though. If I eat very “clean” for a week straight, even without working out, I can tell a difference. Alot of that may be a reduction in bloating and water retention though

Muscle does not weigh more than fat, it just takes up less space….

Dont get discouraged, just stay consistent, that’s the hardest part (I suck at it)

I notice it right away BUT don’t be jealous because ALL of my extra weight is in my midsection.  Not in my boobs or anywhere else that looks good.  So, if I eat too much over the holidays, pants don’t button.  If I eat right for a week or two and exercise, pants button.  Now, if you want to talk about how long it takes for my arms to tone up and look defined, well, I’m still trying.

With the program I use – I saw results within two weeks (I also ate clean). At least in the toning aspect. I a 5″5″ and was a size 12 in August and now almost a size 6. This was the millionth time I’ve tried as well, but at 30 I finally stuck to something!

Peaceoutboyscout:  Ah! You get me!  When I say I notice it right away, it’s not a major difference.  The scale doesn’t really change, my pants just button a little eaiser.  If I REALLY want to lose my midsection, I have to do a crap ton of cardio with intervals.  For me, spin class works best.  I hate running/sprinting.  Leading up to my wedding I took a spin class 2 days a week and went to Pilates reformer 2 days a week. Pilates actually is awesome for toning the midsection, it like sucks you in.  I have to get back into it after the holidays.

ETA: Try not to be discouraged, 10 pounds is huge!  And you’ve got lots of time still before the wedding!

Peaceoutboyscout:  way to go on the 10 pound loss!! That’s awesome! I’m 5’8″ and also carry all my weight in my midsection. It seems like it initially takes 10-15 pounds before I see a real difference. I’m down about 30 pounds so far, and I can definitely say that the last 10 pounds have been a way more noticeable difference than the first 10 I lost! I’m looking to lose about 15-20 more.

Feel free to add me on MFP! My username is laurjchel and I could REALLY use more accountability too!

I am 5’1 and started at 198lbs.  It took about 20lbs for people to start to notice a change… about 30lbs i really started to notice it in how i looked in my clothes/how things fit. I am now at 148 (50# loss) and i get compliments ALL the time, however i feel like i look the same as i did at a 30# loss…Now i have been at this weight give/take 5#s for a few months i no longer see the difference and still  see the reflection of who i saw at 198#s…its weird. Its like i saw the change in myself initially but don’t anymore. I still have about 20#s to go to goal weight.

Peaceoutboyscout:  Don’t be scared!  First, don’t go to a crazy place where they scream at you like Soul Cycle.  Second, it is SO EASY to “cheat”…if you feel like you are going to die, just decrease the tension or speed!
