I am getting married in December and ordered my dress in early February. I was told the dress would be here in June. I got an email in May to say the order was delayed until mid July which was fine with me. But now I got an email saying it wont be here until early November because the designer is swamped with orders over the summer. The dress shop say they will get alterations done in time no matter what, but I’m a little nervous…here is why:
My order wasn’t straightforward – I fell in love with a lace dress, but I wanted to change 2 things about it. The shop had an organza dress which was an identical pattern to my lace one, except it had the two 2 features I wanted on my dress. We determined it’d be cheaper to order the organza dress pattern in the lace fabric, rather than order the lace dress and make alterations. They have done this lots of times before and I trust them. But obviously it means I haven’t seen what MY dress will look like…and now I’m nervous that I wont see it until a few weeks before the wedding – what if the order was messed up?! EEK!
Has anyone else not seen their dress until a few weeks before the wedding? Anyone with a custom order like mine? Would appreciate feedback! I haven’t made a fuss about this…do you think I should?

Mine was a month or less. I still had time for alterations, especially as I had contacted the seamstress ahead of time to see if I could reserve a spot. I had it hemmed, pads added in, bustled, and steamed. Hopefully yours will get here soon but everything can be done quick if needed!

Got mine from David’s. It took maybe 2 to 2.5 months I think? Ordered it at the end of January and got it in March, I believe… or was it April? Anyway, the wedding was in July so no worries about the alterations.

I got engaged in December, ordered my dress in January, it came in about two weeks ago (litterally the last week in June), my wedding is Sept. 29th. So it arrivied almost 3 months before my wedding, but right on time w/ what the dress shop told me.
I pick it up this weekend, and have my first fitting. Second fitting two weeks later (end of July), and bridal portraits in August. I wanted to get it done early, because Sept. is a busy month for me.

Before the wedding? almost 14 months. It came in about 3 months earlier than I was told it would.

I have a custom dress too from a designer in another country, I ordered my dress 4 months ago and will actually see it for the FIRST time 4 days before the wedding when I fly into the country to get fitted and pick it up before heading up to my wedding venue!!!
YES I can totally understand your fears about the timing, my only advice would be to stay in touch with the store (no matter if they think your being a pest!) the closer it gets just to ensure that you are upmost on their minds!
I’m sure it will all turn out for perfectly 🙂
