Fiance and I have been together for four years. Shortly after I left my husband, Fiance and met and started our relationship – I know, every on of my family members rolled their eyes at the time, too. My ex didn’t like the fact that I was seeing someone else and contested everything in the divorce.
Ladies, it took 4 years, but I finally got the decree. I feel like framing it and putting it on the wall next to my BA.
Fiance and I got engaged over Christmas, just 2 days after the divorce was final, and the decree finally came in the mail. We scheduled our court-house-before-the-big-day-wedding for next week. All in all, it sounds much more crazy than it actually is!
So, how long are you waiting inbetween marriages?

My divorce took 2 years. We were seperated for 3 though. So I’ll be getting married 14 months after my divorce. Mine took so long because I was pregnant and you can’t file until after you’ve had the baby and DNA was done. We had to be legally seperated for a year because it was a military divorce.

I met Fiance about 2 months after we separated. Divorce was final 5 months after the separation. I, too, had outside judgements about dating so quickly, but the truth is that my first marriage was very, very over long before we separated.

And I thought my divorce took forever!!! I left my ex back in Sept 2007 and two weeks later I met my now Fiance. It took my divorce 2 1/2 yrs to be finalized but it was well worth the wait!!! Hell I had a 2nd child by the time my divorce was final. What is with the court system??

Congratulations on your divorce being final. If mine had taken 4 years I would have been kicking puppies. Your MARRIAGE was over long before that, so your remarriage doesn’t seem especially fast to me. I was married for 25 years and the marriage was over long before the separation & divorce. My therapist even hugged me and told me I was doing the right thing…this after years of seeing her by myself and for couples counseling. She told me most people go through all the stages of grief after a divorce and the conventional wisdom is you need 2 years to get through it all. She told me I’d gone through all this long before I made the decision to divorce, so when I met my Fiance while I was separated, she told me I was very ready to begin a new relationship. It’s not the days on the calendar that matter as much as what has actually been taking place during that time period.

Congrats on your engagement!!!
Don’t mind me, while I segway into a story…..
When I was in High School, we went to a night out at a place called The Bay Bush Barn. It was one of those country themed places that do a roast and have a bush band with square dancing.
We were the only table of gusts in the place, aside from the band. We found out it was booked for a wedding, and the bride’s divorce papers didnt come through. Her ex had deliberatly held it up. So it cancelled extremely last minute.
I felt sad for the couple……but now all these years later I wonder why on earth they booked one random table of people in the middle of someones wedding…..that would of be awkward!!!!!

My divorce took forever too, 2.5 years. I signed the papers the minute I got my hands on them, he signed them 2 years later. I threw myself a party when I finally got the decree 🙂
Didn’t meet my future husband for 2 years after that, we will have been together 4 years when we get married. So all in all 8 years between marriages.
