I just wanted to know how long after getting off birth control did you conceive. I know that every woman is different but on average how many months did it take you? Did you continue to take BC until you were ready to TTC or did you stop after your wedding? Fiance’ and I are getting married in March and I really want to try to conceive at the end of this year. I want to know if I should continue to be on the pill until closer to then or should I immediately get off after the wedding?

@Charlies_Angel: my wedding is in March, too! We’re planning to NTNP soon after and if that doesn’t work, actively start TTC in July/August. I don’t want to go off BC before the wedding in case of bad side effects, so I will be stopping the pill at the end of the pack after the wedding.
I have heard people saying they got pregnant the first month and others it took 12+ months. I think it really varies from person to person.

I got pregnant within a month after getting off my shot. I wasn’t even really trying to get pregnant and my doctor said it usually takes about 6-12 months before you can concieve. She was wrong and I had twins 🙂

I gave my body a few months to adjust after stopping the pill. I stopped in April and we used condoms until July. We conceived in August.

I wed in March 2012 and got off BC January 2012. We TTCed for a year and no sticky pregnancies. I say get off now and use an alternate form of BC if you will be TTC any time soon =)

I got married in June. We have been trying for 7 cycles. No success thus far.

I came off birth control mid August (a week or so before my wedding).
The first two months we were NTNP, then the third month we really started trying and used OPKs. I became pregnant that month, in November.

I got married Dec 2nd and took my last pill. I’m about 6 weeks pregnant right now but we weren’t actively trying but trying to prevent either. It’s different for everyone though… I really wanted to get off the pill before the wedding but I also didn’t want any weird side effects, so we waited until after the wedding.

We started TTC as soon as I went off the pill. It took three months. We consider ourselves so blessed. 😀

3 cycles! I have longer cycles (34 days) so it took me 2 cycles of charting and temping to figure out when I was ovulating so we missed it the first 2 cycles but it worked the 3rd.

I went off BC in August. We started trying then. My cycles have been really whacked and all over the place since coming off BC; however, got a BFP this month. So, took 5 months.

We went off in May, started trying in August, and got lucky in October!

It took 5 cycles in total if i exclude the first one off the pill because we used condoms that month. The five I count are one where I was still figuring the whole charting thing out where we accidentally had sex in my fertile window and the four after that when we decided to really try. My cycles were all completely different with completely different temps, ovulation dates and lengths (they ranged from 28-40 days). I think i went off the pill in the second week of April and i got pregnant at the end of September.

I went off the pill in June and got pregnant my second cycle in July. Unfortunately that one didn’t stick but am pregnant again (BFP in December). Hopefully this one sticks in which case it took 5 cycles. I was actively charting, temping, OPKing etc.

BFP on 3rd cycle off BCPs for me. I went all out on the third cycle with charting, OPKs, Pre-seed, Sperm Meets Egg Plan, VitB complex (bc my luteal phase was on the short side previous 2 cycles) and FertiliTea with Vitex. I don’t know which one did the trick or if it was just plain luck. I think they say a good rule is to give yourself anywhere from 3-6 months off the pill, but then again, so many people get pregnant off of it right away. Everyone is so different, it is just hard to say. One thing I did was search charts on FF for pregnancy charts “After birth control pills” and the average TTC months was 2, but I don’t know if this means they started right after the pill or what. Highly recommend charting once you do stop BCPs, though! 🙂
