So last weekend my bf asked me what size ring I wore and then proceeded to tell me he has been researching diamonds. Especially Emerald cut 🙂 (that is what I want).
We also have had a trip to Mexico planned for a month now and we will be going in June. He has been talking about how great our relationship is too.
I am not an especially patient person…probably bc we have been dating for 4.5 years and I have wanted this for at least 3.
So I was wondering about how long, on average, did it take to go from “waiting” once you started to talk about it to getting engaged.

We went shopping and priced rings in May, my Fiance bought the ring in December, and proposed in February. It took almost 2 months to the day for the ring to come in after placing the order. I think that’s a big issue a lot of guys face- they don’t realize how long the ring takes to come in! My guy thought it would arrive in 2 weeks (!), planned a big New Years Eve proposal, and well, we all know what happened.
Good Luck and try to enjoy the waiting! Once you get engaged the mania begins!! Keep us posted 🙂

Well… technically, a couple of years. But the first time we talked about it, we were in that “dreaming” stage of life – we knew it’d be coming someday, but he asked me again later since tastes change over time. When I really told him what I wanted it was about 4-5 months before I got the ring.

about a year…and after we went ring shopping it still took him 5 months…

We looked at rings together in the summer, and he proposed in September. I’d say there was a 2 month space between. We had been dating for 3.5 years, so we had definitely discussed marriage often for the past 2 years or so. He always said he wanted to wait until I was done with school… and once that time got close, things started moving.

well we both knew our relationship was heading that way..
BUT we started talking about it seriously in january..kept talking about it through early february. went ring shopping the day before valentines day to pick out the exact ring (i had shopped a little bit before this to get an idea)..he ordered the ring the next week, got it about a week after that, and we were engaged on march 10th. so not even two months after the initial conversation. he had the ring in the apartment for a week and it drove him nuts hiding it.
he doesn’t poke around when he knows what he wants 🙂

Well, we started talking marriage about 4 years before he proposed (when we moved in together). It was something we were always kind of talking about (and eventually I was nagging about), but the conversation never really changed on his end. He totally surprised me last September when he proposed!

Hopefully it is coming soon! I think it will be in the next month before our romantic get away. His aunt said something about it being an engagement trip…but when I asked him, his response was that he might do it before then.
So I have my fingers crossed for the next month. If not then, then definitely by September. (I have put my foot down, and I will not move in without something on my leftie)
Thanks for all the encouraging words! It is super refresshing to know that others have been here before and are so willing to give me advice:)

Well, my Fiance started *carefully* bringing up ring talk after a year and a half into our relationship. I had told him straight up that I won’t go ring shopping with him (I don’t like ring shopping together, just personal preference, and I wanted it to be a surprise). I think it took him a little over a month to actually purchase the ring after he started bringing up the ring talk. He talked with my sister (she knew what kind of ring I wanted) and got the ring, but kept it so secretive that I had no idea he had purchased the ring. Then from what I hear, he waited about 3 weeks after he got the ring to propose.

- Wedding: June 2010 - The Mountain Terrace, Woodside, CA
I was told to pick out a ring in late October, he bought the ring in late January, and proposed the first week of May.
Maybe he’s going to wait and pop the question on your trip? How exciting!
