See poll 🙂
Hmmm… let me try to do a rundown of my timeline and see how it all played out..
1:00 First look
1:00 – 2:00 We took pictures in the park, just my husband and I with one friend each who were not photographed, just there to help and have fun
2:00 – 4:00 We took pictures of the two of us back at our venue. I think that I’m lying and really we only took pictures back at our venue from 2:30 – 3:30 (since I’m sure we were running late getting back from the park, and it didn’t take a full two hours to take the shots we did at the venue).
4:00 – 5:00 Family pictures. Family pictures were called for 4:00, but I think we started ones with immediate family (parents, siblings) at around 3:30, most likely. I asked my bridesmaids to come at 4:30, but we didn’t take pictures with them until closer to 5.
All in all, it took a while, yeah, but I would ask your photographer or whoever is going to be shooting what they recommend. We created this timeline with our photographer based on what he said he needed, not based on what we thought we did.
We got pics seperate before, then I had pics taken of my entire family done. Some pics of his family, they didn’t know what they wanted and I figured it wasn’t really my problem :D. The photog took 1/2hr of pics of just us, then we were both ansy to get to the party. It helped taht I knew exactly what I wanted and had my nephews rounding up people for pics, oh and that I Have a HUGE mouth.
I’m asking because our photographer has asked for 2 hours (wedding party + Bride/groom photos) then 20 mins for family. Now, our wedding is being held at a somewhat remote location (lots of people travelling out of province for it, all in one place (ceremony + reception).
4/5 guests i have asked so far say that having a 2 hour break for cocktails will be just fine.
Bees on here however have told me that is too long for guests to wait.
Our wedding is quite intimate and we know everyone well.
We are paying a lot for photography and I LOVE their work so I dont want to cut them short….
Our breakdown was:
2:45 Groom getting ready pic
3:00 Bride getting ready pic (had hair/makeup done at the salon, this was Mom helping me with dress, etc.)
3:15- First look, bride & groom pics at hotel
4:00-ish head to venue (5 minutes away)
4:30-ish- “first look” with Dad (these photos are awesome!!)
Then we had an hour of bridal party portraits, and I had a few with my Mom and Dad.
During cocktail hour, we took family photos for about 15 minutes, then about another 20 bride/groom.
The timeframe your photographer gave you sounds about right. Are you doing a first look? That will give you a LOT more photos- SO glad we did! (also, *really* helped keep my emotions in check- I would have been a mess walking down the aisle otherwise)
Hi – no we are not doing a first look…we are going the traditional route. I know this would have made photos so much easier but we really don’t want to unfortunately.!!
there’s 2 types
type 1) the after ceremony “formal shots”
type 2) the after “type 1” pictures the wedding party takes off for “wedding party pictures”
type 1) TYPICALLY is 10 mintues PER photo
type 2) we took 1.5hrs
Ours took exactly one hour.
I was meaning the kind after the ceremony, including family, wedding party, and bride/groom photos. We will not be doing a first look.
