Er..first time we went looking for w-rings (and venues, cake..it was a wedding exhibition), we became across this gorgeous, stunning, very expensive white gold, diamonds and pearl ring..he wanted me to try it though i didn’t want to. What was the point, if i was happily wearing my mother’s e-ring?? By the way, this i put it on since the family lunch where we announced we were getting married. So..i tried the ring and OMG..it sparkled in such a crazy way that it took my breath away..but i said “No away, we’re getting our w-bands anyway so i don’t need another e-ring, my mother’s suits me just fine” What i didn’t know was he privetly asked the jewelery shop to keep it aside for him..he presented me with it on Valentine’s Day!! So, it took just 1 visit to a jewelery stand for him to pick the e-ring! This happened maybe 4 months after that lunch.

By The Way..there was no proposal! We “agreed” we both wanted to get married !

@blueberries123:  LOL, mine hasn’t found one yet. I sent him photos of rings I like about 3.5 months ago and he is still looking. Apparently he has one more store to go to and then he will make the final decission.

Honestly, it depends if he finds one he loves right away… just like things we want to buy, its hard to say how many places we have to look to find the perfect dress for example.

I have heard that it can take weeks to size and order .. or hours.. my girlfriends fiance went to a jeweler, saw the ring right away, it was her size so he bought it on the spot and proposed half an hour later. Wish it was that easy for us!!

My Fiance doesn’t like shopping either, but when it comes to something like a ring, it took him over a month to find the right jeweler and then maybe a couple hours to pick out the elements of the custom ring.  I had no idea he was doing *any* of this, and didn’t even notice him awkwardly fumbling with this huge ring box when we were getting out of the car to hike to where he proposed.

During this time, I was also totally psycho and would occasionally check his browser windows that were open (we had to share a computer, I wasn’t a snooper) and type stuff into the search bar to see if anything came up.  Turns out, he used the private browsing feature to do all his research (smarty!) so keep that in mind if you’re not seeing any evidence.

In conclusion, despite my obsessive watching, bugging, etc. he still managed to 100% surprise me and put an unprecedented amount of thought and time into the ring.

ETA: We had to re-size the ring afterwards because the size I knew from previous rings didn’t match up to the jeweler’s sizing somehow.  But Fiance did double check my ring size verbally before proposing and even borrowed my ring to size on his own finger.

Well for my promise ring, only a day. I knew exactly what I wanted. As for my e-ring, I just now found it. It was hard to find a ring that would match the wedding band I’m in love with.

well i have known for years the ring i wanted, so he just looked at it and agreed to it ๐Ÿ˜› no idea how long it would have taken if he picked it completely on his own!

Fiance only looked at one store, but he spent 4 hours in the store trying to pick it out.

@blueberries123:  if he is proposing within a month, he probably has looked at rings already ๐Ÿ™‚ yes he may not be the kinda guy to like going shopping and looking at all different things, but for the ring you are going to wear for the rest of your life i am sure he will have looked in at least one store if not more, to make sure he gets you the perfect one ๐Ÿ™‚

My Darling Husband gets a headache just thinking about the mall. So I don’t think he wandered the mall either. I wasn’t involved in the shopping process, but from what he tells me, from the first time he started looking and when he had the ring in his hand it was about 5 months.

I think to be honest he decided which one he was getting the first and only time we looked at rings…  I don’t know this for sure, though, since I do not have it on my hand yet! (/vent, lol)  There were three lovely rings I decided I really loved, and one kept jumping on my finger.  Anytime I’d try another one on, I’d go back to that one to compare.  It seemed like THE ring, so I would honestly be shocked if when I get my ring it’s anything other than that one (which I will be totally thrilled with!).

I don’t really know how to answer your question based on my particular situation, so I’ll just tell the story…

SO knew from the start he wanted to custom design my ring. Since basically everyone in our area gets our rings from the same (phenomenal) local jeweler, he didn’t want me running into a friend on the street and having the same ring. He wanted it unique, personal, just for us!

That said, he took me ring shopping twice, again just to this one store. (There are others in our city, but they really can’t compare.) There I was to instruct him on what I like and don’t like. That was easy because I am very decisive about that kind of thing. (“No halo. Love milgrain. No white gold. Love marquise and pear. Round center stone.” etc.) Our consultant had me choose 3 favorites and say what I loved and what I’d change about each. By the end of the second shopping trip, SO said he knew exactly what to do and just had to get it down on paper.

He took it from there, and I don’t know how many times he’s been to the jeweler to build on the design… He’s embarassed to tell me. All I know is that he’s been there enough that he and our consultant know everything about each other’s lives and relationships, and the consultant is invited to our wedding. Hahaha.

He hasn’t proposed yet but says it’s right around the corner. He’s just waiting for the ring to be finished. So I’ll be able to show it off soon!
