We got engaged and then I started looking for rings. His mother gave me heirloom diamonds so I crafted a setting out of them. It took me a while to make up my mind about how I wanted to use the diamonds. I voted about a month or two, it probably took me about 4 weeks. In the end I decided on a very blingy e-ring, and a plain WG band. The big decision was whether to use some of the diamonds for the wedding band and have a solitaire e-ring, but in the end I went with a halo and have a plain band. I’m happy with that because I know that an eternity band is something that my husband would like to me buy in the future for an anniversary.

I picked out my e-ring and wedding band at the same time, and Darling Husband purchased them at the same time. A big part of why I chose the e-ring I that did was because I also knew what type of wedding band I wanted.

    About 2 1/2 years!

We got engaged in October 2009. We looked at rings and I could not find an ering I loved before we got married. I did find a wedding ring I thought I liked by time I married in January 2010. Found out I did not love it for many reasons, including comfort and allergies, by about May 2010. Had new ringset by July 2010. Earlier this year I started having more allergy issues and as neither I nor my husband loved my rings anyway, I sought to find the forever ones I did love. I have had them less than a month and they are my forever rings. I love them (as does DH)! They are sooooo me and they feel totally right for me.

I tried on the wedding band that I eventually ended up buying when we were resizing my e-ring a week after getting engaged, so about 10 minutes.

    Interesting topic.

My SO and I first talked seriously about getting married while on vacation the middle of last month so I went out to look then on my own one day while he golfed.  I found something I LOVED (I am looking for something not necessarily the norm, want something unique or unusual) but unfortunately, because of being out of the country, it would have cost a fortune (and a huge hassle) to bring it back to Canada (Duties & Taxes)

Lol, we’ve been looking on and off ever since we’ve come back home.

Sadly, I haven’t found anything that has screamed out to me… TAKE ME HOME AND LOVE ME… so am still looking.  It is very very frustrating.

We’ve been to probably 10 different jewellery stores now… National Chains, Small Independents, Custom Jewellery Designers are probably next…

My SO is great though, he is extremely patient… says he is happy we are looking together, and that YES eventually we’ll find the perfect ring for us… he too wants me to both LOVE my ring, and have it be something special / unique just like us two (besides we aren’t 20 anymore… so we do have more options than we did way back when…)

We’ve made a game of it though… we’ve seen some we thought came close… more though that we liked “aspects” of them… so to keep them straight from one another we’ve taken to given them nicknames (I came up with that idea).

This all started with the Faux-Marquise de France who was hiding out in America (the vacation ring), followed by Jack Sparrow the Pirate with the Sparkling Eyes (gorgeous to look at… but might not be a good long term investment… as one of us might tire of the other), and most recently Mr T (the big-guy with a ton of metal & glitz… but so last century)

What I really need in my life is Micheal Buble… Down to earth Canadian guy with a heart of gold, wonderful charm & class, and a sprinkling of old-world Hollywood Pizazz…

    Will keep you all posted.

PS… Wedding Bands won’t be nearly this difficult… just want something that goes with the Engagement Ring be that plain white gold or a bit of sparkle.  Thin and girlie.

@HappilyEverAfter54:  Wow. Your 18 minutes to select an e-ring must be some type of record! LOL. ๐Ÿ™‚

FH picked out my e-ring all on his own & I absolutely love it!  We started looking at weddings bands somewhat casually around Christmas, then we got our tax money a couple months after we really looked & tried to determine what we wanted.  I thought I knew, but I was constantly just like “ehh” about them all.  I wanted something that I loved since it will be an everyday accessory for me for the rest of my life!  I ended up finding something about a week & a half ago.  I’m so happy with it & can not wait to wear it in another 4 months [& 1day haha].  It was definitely well worth the wait!

At LEAST a year, but I almost want to say it was longer than that.  I knew my ring would be custom made so I started looking at styles well in advance (pricescope can do that to you. LOL )  It’s not that I couldn’t find one that I loved. (I loved so many!) I just couldn’t find one that I loved long enough to get to the custom-making process. lol

We found both my e-ring and wedding band on our first trip. I had a really good idea of what I wanted in an e-ring, I tried on both my and DH’s choice, and my choice won out. Though he was sneaky and decided to get me a bigger stone – I think he really liked the idea of picking out the ring himself. ๐Ÿ™‚ For the wedding band, I just went in and tried on three. I ended up choosing the one I never thought I would choose, but it was an incredibly easy decision! Darling Husband was much more picky and did a lot more research and looking than I did for his wedding band.

My then boyfriend’s boss recommended a jewelry store (we suspect he’s part owner as we were given 20% discount when we mentioned his name) when he found out we’re planning to shop for rings. The store was quite fancy and my guy was very specific with what he wanted for me, so it only took about 30 minutes to short-list a Tacori and a Simon G. He hand-picked them, I just tagged along to size and model. We went home, slept on it, then returned the next day to purchase. We never looked anywhere else.

Darling Husband chose the ering (he probaby took a total of a day choosing lol). I found my band online within a couple months of being engaged.
