I think it was about 7 months… But I definitely wasn’t charting or anything like that.

I was 21 too with my son, and literally first cycle after being off birth control we conceived. Then conceived again when our son was 3 months old the same week we started having regular sex which was as soon as my son was transitioned to his nursery.

We never really had to TTC, we were very fortunate. Well, we were very nervous to find out we were expecting again, to say the least, but feel blessed to be welcoming our baby girl in February.

One and done ๐Ÿ˜‰

We’re both young and healthy (25) and had been charting to avoid prior, just skipping the fertile times, so there weren’t any artificial hormones confusing things and we already knew when to DTD to get the job done.

As an interesting note, the success rate statistics for some nfp methods (to achieve, obviously lol, not avoid) are as high as 75% or 85% success in the first month, with as high as 90-something by the third month.  However, that assumes no birth control hormones and that the couple knows their cycle and how to time things.  Kind of interesting since the “average” statistic is so much lower!

I was 29, first month off BCP and the only time Darling Husband didn’t pull out.  I will be extra careful with my BCP once I go back on them after how easily that happened lol.

Kld37:  I am 33 and it took us 2 cycles.  The first cycle we weren’t tracking anything and I had just gotten off BC.  The second month, I actually used OPK’s and that worked for us!

I’m 35, DH’s 40 we conceived on the first try. No charting or temping, just literally tried once unprotected and hit the jackpot. I had been on BCP for 16 years but went of them a year prior. I am now 29 weeks pregnant. I should also note that I was super healthy for over a year before TTC which I think helped.

We realise we are incredibly lucky though… We have so many friends our age who has tried for years,  had IVF etc with no luck. Makes me feel guilty sometimes how easy it was for us.

amanda3334455:  I think there is probably some skewing of the data, given who is likely to “self-report”. My husband and I are “healthy and happy” and I knew when my fertile periods were supposed to be, and it took us 8 cycles. And even though that felt like an eternity while we were going through it, it is actually completely NORMAL. Honestly, I think parading around the idea that if you read TCOYF, chart, use OPKs, (etc etc, whatever else) you should get pregnant right away (in less than 3 months) is actually kind of hurtful. Sometimes you and your partner can be “doing everything right” and it still takes time! TTC is something were we only have so much control. Falling into the though train of “if only I did xyz different I’d be pregnant now” is painful and honestly not helpful.

amanda3334455:  Don’t worry about it. It’ll happen. I find that people who are struggling tend to avoid these posts because it’s depressing. Also, I realized that it just seems like people get pregnant right away because they are usually the ones offering up that information. Rarely do you hear someone say “Yes, we are so excited. It only took us 6, 9, 12, 18 (you get the point) months!”

As for me, 2nd month with first BFP, miscarried and now going on month 6th of trying a second time. Booo.

Kld37:  We started trying in July and I got pregnant right around this time last year! My baby boy is 3.5 months old now. I was 31 when we started trying and 32 when I got pregnant. Good luck!

LLEU:  yep. I totally agree. The problem with all these kind of threads on weddingbee is the sample size. You might get 25 responses if you’re lucky. And of those, you need to take into account the skewing for the reasons you stated.
