that’s exactly what happened to us. I think it must be common, although I’m not sure why. (If we wanted a particular image to use prior to the wedding, we would have had to pay extra for it.)

We haven’t taken our e-pics yet, but our photographer told us it would be about a 4 week turn-around, so we will be getting them before the wedding. The turn-around for wedding pics is much longer (up to 12 weeks). It does seem a little silly that you have to wait until after the wedding for the e-pics, but I guess it is nice that you can at least see them online. How far away is your wedding from your e-pic session?

We got ours in just under two weeks.  It sounds really weird that your photog won’t release the pictures.  Is she trying to save money on DVDs or something?  What if you wanted to use those pictures for the wedding?

That sounds really strange to me! We got ours back on a cd within two weeks… Maybe they are trying to make more money off of you by making you pick ones to have her print for you before then?

As a pt wedding photographer I think this is weird! I hate that the wedding photography industry is like this.  The roll of photography is changing (due to the popularizaton of digital cameras…) it is easier for everyone to just take the disk and print out there photos at Walmart or wherever and the photog gets no additional $ on the sale of images, ect.  I have accepted this and I think that more people just entering the field do also.  As a photog I give my couples a disk and a set a prints.. (Because I want my photography to be shown off in a better light than what the Walmart printer can give… ) and if they want additional images or other products from me I might charge them a small fee to the price of the actual print, but I don’t expect that sales from my images are going to make up for the time it took me to shoot and edit your images or help pay to keep my camera equipement and bussiness in good form.

Ours took 4 weeks, and we got about 140 edited, hi-res pics on a disc that we can use (for private use) immediately and as much as we want. Our wedding will take longer, but will be the same policy. I love my photographer because of this.

I actually won a “free” engagement shoot at a bridal bazaar and never went, because I was sure the prints would be exorbitantly expensive. The e-pics we took were part of my wedding package.

Actually, funny that I answered this today. My photographer just sent us the link to download high-res images! (3 weeks before the wedding.)

You need to check your contract. Many of the photographers I interviewed did not include print rights to the images. That meant that you would have to order prints or albums through the photographer. This is essentially so that the can make additional money.

Some of the seemingly cheapest photographers charged the most for prints, albums and print rights. I factored the cost of prints or print rights into my decision of which photographer to pick.

We got ours a couple days after the shoot. Edited, but not like 300 or anything. It was like 50.

I got a disc in the mail with 80-ish photos (our session was only an hour), all edited and perfect in 2 days.  Needless to say, we LOVE our photographer.
