This is fun and I guess I’ll be honest :p We were friends for 1.5 years before we started dating,  but he started talking hypothetical marriage around month 2. He proposed when we had been dating 4 months and we will be married 9 months after we started officially dating. We are 36 and 38 and do want kids.

It’s actually a really long courtship in my culture.  Most date under 3 months and do a shorter engagement. My grandparents dated a week on dads side and a month on moms side. My parents dated 2 weeks, but had a 6 month long engagement due to logistical reasons. Fi ‘S parents also married only 4 months after they started dating.   My sister dated a month and married 3 months later. All still married and loving to each other(yes sickeningly so sometimes lol)

Actually Fi and I just got back from taking a ‘singles’ cruise for members of our faith.  I signed up before we were dating, and he signed up after we started dating and we reckoned,  hey,  we aren’t married yet,  so let’s go vacation together(so much fun). There were 2 newlywed couples both of whom got engaged at the same time Fi and I did,  but they decided to elope,  so the cruise was their honeymoon. I guess they figured the same way we did,  that the cruise was nonrefundable at that point, so why not go?

Just sharing because I think culture  and faith can have a huge impact on how long you date prior to marriage.

I do have 2 sisters and a brother who married outside the culture and they all dated over a year. Two are divorced now,  but one is still married and really happy with her hubby.

Three weeks or so before we decided to get married and about two months before he actually proposed with the ring. We’ve known each other for ten years and we were good friends throughout that time so we skipped the dating part.

Previous boyfriend and I dated 7 years, waited 2 long years after he bought the ring to propose …(he was 34, I was 28)….I called off the engagement.

met my current bf/fiance/husbadn when I was 29, decided we would get married 5 months after dating, ordered rings, we are getting married this summer, and everything seems so much more natural!
