We have been together for not quite two years. 1 3/4 years, I guess. It will be two years on January 9th, and we got engaged on October 1st. People always said to us to wait until we reach three years, but that’s not necessarily true for everyone. His parents have been married for 29 years, and they had the same length of time between dating to getting engaged to when they were married.

I feel like a lot of older (by older I just mean 30+) couples ‘rush’ into getting engaged/married just as frequently, or even more frequently, than younger couples because in your 30s you are expected to get married and there’s more pressure to keep up with everyone else. I’m 19 and my HF is 20. We were together 3.5 years when we got engaged. Our wedding will be 3 weeks before our 5 year anniversary together (couldn’t have it on the day because my brother lives overseas and has his year 12 exams the week we wanted to have the wedding). If we had been older, we might not have waited as long. The only thing really keeping us from getting engaged sooner was age (I told him a long time ago I didn’t want to be engaged before I was 19, or married before 20). I’m glad we waited though – we have learned a lot and changed quite a bit since we first started dating, and it’s really nice to have that experience together and know each other well first! Plus I still feel super young to be engaged, but so so happy with my partner!

Between the day we met and the day we got married – exactly 94 days. Yes, 94 days, as in barely three months from meeting to married. We have both been divorced, though, and we both knew EXACTLY what we wanted. We’ve been married 2.5 years now, and it just keeps getting better. πŸ™‚

Just over 5 years – although I brought it on myself, really. When we first started going out (I was 18), I told my Fiance that i don’t want to be married before I am 25, but I also don’t believe in long engagements (over a year), sooooo… he proposed just a few months short of my 24th birthday and we are getting married next year (won’t be 25 yet though ;)).

My general observation is that couples who started dating young, tend to wait a bit longer – and that seems perfectly natural πŸ™‚
