katydaisy: He was in his late 20’s and I was in my early 30’s when we moved in together 3 months after we started dating. We got engaged on our 1 yr anniversary. 🙂

Fiance and I have been “officially dating” for 2 years this July 1 and together for 2 1/2. I moved in after 1 1/2 years of dating and became engaged this past May, so almost 2 years.

We’ve been mostly long distance, we had hoped to live together for at least a year, but we would have been waiting a very long time to get engaged if we’d done that, it might have been 6 months cumulatively? Started dating Nov 2010, Engaged Dec 2013, we were 23 and 24 when we became an ‘item’. Your timing is what is right for the two of you. Every relationship is different.

Almost 5 years. Moved in together after our first year of dating, and have lived together ever since. We’ll have been together 6 years in August.

I moved in with FH after dating for 2 years. He proposed after we had lived together for 6 months, and we decided on an 18 month engagement (best decision ever). He is 27 and I’m 28.

OP, don’t rush your boyfriend into an engagement. He will propose when he’s ready. Try your best to enjoy the present, and the future will get here when it gets here.

We moved in together really quick at 4 months, but we had both never cohabitated with our sig other so we were each other’s first.  I was 27 and he was 32.  We are now 30 and 35 and we got engaged after 2 years and 2 months of living together.

We didn’t live together before getting engaged.  He had lived with 2 of his girlfriends previously, so that wasn’t the best track record for him.  I told him I didn’t want to move in with him until we were engaged, because I never wanted to go through the moving out and breaking up process.

So we dated for 2.5 years, then got engaged when I was 29 and he was 35.  (We met at work when I was 23 and he was 29, but didn’t start dating until a few years later).

I’m super glad we did it this way!!

katydaisy:  I’m not living with my boyfriend prior to getting engaged this time.

Last time it was 3 years, and I think we just got engaged because “it was time”… not through any big desire to be married.  We cancelled the wedding 6 months beforehand.

ETA: I’m 32 now, Boyfriend or Best Friend probably won’t move in until I am 33.  I was previously engaged at 25/26.

We moved in together at 24. We lived together for a year and 1 week before he proposed and we were 25.

katydaisy:  We moved in together after 6 months, lived together for 8.5 yrs, got engaged for our 9 year anniversary and are getting married on our 10 yr anniversary. <br />I’m 44 he’s 38 🙂

To be fair he wanted it sooner but I had been previously married (not great) and wasn’t in a big rush to do it again.

My DH talked about marrying me pretty much right after we got together – he started asking me about rings over a year before he proposed!

My DH and I started dating in 2009 (I was 22, he was 27)
We moved in together in 2010
We got engaged in 2012 after a little over 2 years of living together.
We got married in 2013 (I was 26, he was 31)

I remember getting really frustrated that he hadnt proposed in 2011 since I was playing the part of housewife for what felt like forever. But now looking back at it…our timeline was pretty ideal!

We were together for 1 year and 9 months, then moved in together, then he proposed 1 year and 9 months later, so 3.5 years total when we got engaged. We were engaged for almost 1.5 years, so we were together about 5 years when we got married. I was fairly young when we met (23) and in graduate school until two months before our wedding, so it was perfect for us!

We moved in together after dating for about 10 months, were engaged a little over a year later and we’re getting married in October (shortly before our three year anniversary).

katydaisy:  H and I did not move in together until we were engaged (after almost 3 years of dating).  It was one of my rules I set for myself.  I had already been through a bad marriage (which moved way too fast, moved in too soon).  I did not want to waste any precious time my 30s on the wrong guy (if he never wanted to marry me), so that meant if we’re dating – we’re living separately.  It all worked out and he agreed with me!

We started dating in 2006, I was 23 he was 29. We moved in together in 2009, and got engaged July 2013, on our 7 year anniversary. We are getting married 9/15. I was very impaient when I started getting close to 30 because we are waiting to be married before we have children but e caught me completely off guard and I wouldn’t change it for the world!
