So I’ve been with my boyfriend for 5.5 years and we started designing my ring at the beginning of January. We have now had the ring in our possession for roughly 3 weeks and I can’t stop wondering when he will propose. I’m starting to go stir crazy since this gorgeous ring is sitting around and when I told him that it’d be hard to not wear it around he said he didn’t care if I did. I want to be engaged to him, soon to be married. We have no plans to have a wedding because that just isn’t us. His anxiety and stress would be through the roof if he had to stand in front of people and I won’t do that to him. We might have a party afterwards but it isn’t a top priority so there is literally no wedding planning whatsoever. I’m completely fine with being engaged I just want the next step in our relationship to happen.
He is very quiet when it comes to certain things but I have expressed myself before about marriage and such and he agrees that now is the time for it. I do get impatient after awhile but seeing as I started designing this ring since the beginning of the year and I’m currently finishing off the wedding band, I do 3D character modeling, and another stackable band it just sucks to have nothing come out of it. He told me to tell him ASAP once I’ve sent in my final design for the wedding band but I have no idea what to think of that. I am also getting metal and stones from family members to put into my rings so this isn’t costing us a fortune, we are certainly saving a bunch of money thankfully.
I just don’t know how to approach the subject anymore without it seeming like I’m nagging. I do know that he does want to stay with me forever just the thought of marriage scares him. Both of our parents are divorced so I can see the hesitation since they didn’t end well. If anyone has ways to broach this I would love some outside opinions!!!

Why is he waiting?
to answer your question I didn’t wait for him to propose. We decided we wanted to marry each other. Had fun diamond researching as we both liked the idea of having a ring to make it ‘official’ (and, hello! Diamonds!).
So he proposed the same day the ring came back from being cleaned and resized (it was from an antique jeweller). And then we told everyone our happy news.

My fiancé waited three months after he received the ring to propose. Looking back, I’m surprised it was that short… it felt more like six months! The reasoning for the delay was his proposal plan. The way he wanted to do it involved it being at a very specific time on a very specific day, so there wasn’t much anyone could do to speed things along. While I was waiting, a lot of people said the same thing, that they couldn’t understand why someone would wait at all once they got the ring, but good reasons for it really do exist! Lol

I didn’t have to wait because as he proposed the day he got the ring cause he couldn’t wait, but I’d have waited 3 months before saying something.

I waited a year lol. We weren’t planning on ring shopping (long story short, we were at an antique store and I fell in love with one, so he swooped it up). he decided he wanted to propose on Halloween (my favorite holiday) but he would have had to propose shortly after getting the ring, and we weren’t really in a rush to get engaged/married. at that point we had only been dating for a year and a half and I was still young-ish, so he held off, which I didn’t mind.

4 months from when he picked it up from the jeweler. He put a ton of pressure on himself to make the moment perfect, which stressed him out and delayed the proposal. But, the proposal was the best and so us! I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

My husband waited 6 months before giving it to me! He wanted to wait on our one year anniversary to propose to me ….

He told me he couldn’t wait, so he proposed the same day.

I didn’t help my so pick out my ring at all. He had a vague idea of what I wanted and I had no say lol he wanted to wait until the perfect moment, so I had no idea when he got the ring or when he would propose. He got the ring ordered a week before he decided to propose.

My husband waited 6 months. He picked up the ring in February and wanted to propose on a camping trip so he was waiting till summer and didn’t end up doing it until July because my mom was dealing with some health stuff that was taking up a lot of my time. It was 100% worth the wait, the proposal was completely us and he put so much thought into it.

I was lucky enough that he got it a few days before Easter when he wanted to propse so I only waited maybe 3-4 days, but I seriously thought I was going to explode waiting for that ring.

3.5 months and it felt like an eternity. He actually was planning to wait a full 6 months but pushed up the engagement since he was tired of waiting himself. Looking back it was fun waiting for the surprise but I was definitely a basket case in terms of trying to guess when it was going to happen… LOL.

4 hours. We’re not big on waiting.

He had the ring for about 30 minutes. Picked it up from the jeweler, drove to my house and proposed.
