Almost exactly a year. We got engaged at the end of May, getting married the beginning of next June.

We’re not waiting that long for for planning or anything, simply because I want a summer wedding and we didn’t want to try to plan and pay for it in 2-3 months to make it in time for summer this year.

    10 years!

Our situation wasn’t like most.  I was pregnant when we got engaged.  I didn’t want to be pregnant when I got married.  Our Dear Daughter was born and we talked about a wedding and I started semi-planning one.  No date set in stone, but venue shopping, dress shopping, etc.  Then I got pregnant again.  A wedding was out of the question.  We had our son and put the wedding on the back burner.  We hadn’t talked about it for awhile since we had our hands full raising two kids, running two businesses and everything inbetween.  When we started talking about it again, whammo — I was pregnant with baby #3.  After #3, all talk of a wedding was “Justice of the Peace”.  It took us two years after our 3rd child was born to hit the JoP!   Oddly enough, I got pregnant on our wedding night.

Must be something about weddings that gets me pregnant!  lol!

@BanditGirl: I just had to comment because your avatar is still cracking me up.

At the end of the day we will have been engaged for 11 months, but the time between when we actually set a date and the wedding is 8 months. We didn’t start planning for a while.

About ten months. There are times I wish it was shorter, and times I wish I had an extra two or three months, haha.

We were engaged for 9 months before we got married.  We got engaged in September, and we really wanted a June wedding!

By the time we get married in Feb. – we will be engaged for 19 months.  I remember when we told ppl the date (he proposed in July 2009 and the wedding is Feb 2011)  Everyone said “Why so far away?!?!?!”

The reason? We’ve been together for 8 yrs and are basically married.  lol  That and I started a business and wanted to get that up and going before the wedding.

    Still, great thread!

6 months… we got lucky that they venue I picked had the date open. We wanted a quick engagement because the longer we planned the more expensive it would end up being. We already went $15,000 over budget just in the short 6 months we had to plan. My mom still loves to bring up my $25,000 disaster of a wedding… don’t ask. lol

We were 13 months because we wanted January and got engaged in December, 1 month would have been too short notice!

However, in an ideal world, 8 months would have been plenty enough; it was around that point that we were just ready to get it over with and everything was planned.

Our engagement will be almost exactly one year. We got engaged on September 11th and are getting married on September 10th. That was sort of a coincidence though- we knew we wanted to get married in September or October, and September 10th just happened to to be the last Saturday in those months that was not either already booked or on hold at our venue.

Our engagement was 16 months. Darling Husband is in medical school and it was important to me that he get through his first 2 years before we got married. His schedule has normalized a lot because he is doing rotations now rather than sitting on the couch studying all day.

Well we got engaged at age 27 so I wanted to get married ASAP since I already felt kind of like an old bride. But we still had to wait 1.5 years due to a complicated family situation involving my sisters wedding date. We would be celebrating our 1 year anniversarry right now if it were up to me! But it all worked out. I thought 1.5 years was a REALLY long time and if I could go back and do it all over again I would insist on a shorter engagement, even if that meant having a really low-scale wedding. Being engaged is fun, but I think 1 year is plenty of time!

17 months, I don’t regret it yet. I had a time of year in mind (April/May) and there was no way I was going to try and plan it in 5 months so we ended up with a relatively long engagement.
