I put it on facebook a few minutes after.

I called or texted everyone a few hours later.

I put it on facebook a few hours after.

I didn't tell anyone til the next day.

I didn't post on facebook/twitter until the next day.

I had a dinner, showed up at family's house etc to announce it after the fact.

My fiance proposed just as we were leaving for a trip to Mexico, so the only person I told right away was my mom!  We spent a relaxing week in Mexico on what my fiance calls our “engagement moon” – it was really nice to have that time together to just be happy and newly engaged without the whirlwind of phone calls and people asking for details right away.  I did tell everyone and update FB right when we got home though!

I called/texted immediate family and very close friends right away. We had to wait 2 weeks to announce to DH’s family (they live 8 hours away) on Thanksgiving, so I didn’t post on FB until then.

Within minutes, we jumped in the car to make the hour drive to my parents house to tell my family in person.  During this drive, we also called his dad and brothers.  We got engaged about a week before Christmas, so we waited to put it on facebook so we could tell our family (aunts/uncles/cousins, etc.) and close friends over Christmas.

My fiance proposed privately Christmas morning, so we spent a little time together, and then waited until we were at my parents house, with everyone gathered in the living room, to tell my parents, sister, and the aunt, uncle, and cousins who were spending the holiday with us all at once.  I had slipped the ring off and hid it in a (very deep!) pocket while we were waiting because it took my cousins so long to get up!

My best friend actually got a text before that, but she had helped him sort out the ring size and already knew Christmas morning was the day, so it was more to end her waiting before she could talk to me about it!  Very close friends got a group text right after we told our family.

My extended family was all celebrating Christmas together, so we told them each in person at my aunt’s house as they arrived for Christmas.  Once close friends and the whole extended family knew, then we posted on Facebook for everyone else.  While I wish I could have told close friends in person, given the day and my excitement….we just couldn’t wait to share the news! I felt so lucky to get to tell my aunts, uncles, cousins, and Grandmother on in person that day, though.

I posted to Facebook and Twitter immediately after, then texted a handful of people. Fiance called his mom and brother. We showed up to FFIL’s house a bit after that to tell them in person, then went to my grandparents’ house the next weekend. Everyone else found other ways, usually via word of mouth or they saw the ring.
