I’ve been at my job for 8 months and I actually moved to take the job. I like the job, but unfortunately, I don’t care for my boss. I had a 5 year plan in staying at the job, but am not sure if I’ll last that long.
How long did you stay at a job with a boss you didn’t like?

Try to avoid them as much as possible. I’m somone who has a lot to say, so I force myself not to suggest anything bc if I do it’ll cause me more annoyance than its worth.

I’ve been here 5 years and counting. :/ I liked him at first but the last 2 years have been UGHFDSAJKLFSDAUIWREKLASVD to say the least. I’m basically waiting it out because he lets me study for my CPA exams during down time. Once I pass 3 out of the 4 I’m gonna start looking for a new job. Only passed 1 so far so still got a ways to go.

2 years, until the nasty biatch finally came up with enough BS to have me fired. I wish I would have just quit instead of hoping things would change, I hate having that on my employment record.

@YSQueen: oh god, this sucks. i have had a few undesirable bosses in my time. i really can’t remember how long i had to put up with them. it has happened this way a few times. i was a long term employee and they came aboard as my boss. i was very professional with them and i just had to keep reminding myself to continue to do a great job because i will still be here and they will be long gone. i can outlast them. yep, every time they ended up leaving. fired, transferred, whatever. i just felt relieved when they left.

Going on a year at the end of this month. I love the job, hate the boss.
The thing is … some weeks are wonderful. My boss will be in a good mood. And she’ll leave me be to do my job.
Other weeks …complete and aboslute hell on Earth. My coworkers believe she’s bipolar, because she will just snap and take down everything in her path. She has had me in tears several different times.
I’m definitely keeping my eye out for another opportunity.

About a year. I liked her the first year I was there, but it just got worse and worse.

Thanks everyone for their comments!! The only unfortunate thing about my scenario is that my boss is a good friend of mine (before I started working there) and she’s great outside of work, but at work she’s a completely different person and not in the best way.
And no, I’m not confusing business and personal. I don’t act as if we’re friends at work as I remain as professional as possible and treat her with the same expectations that I have for any of my other colleagues. I don’t expect preferential treatment or anything of the sort. Actually reminds me of a similar boss I had at a previous job where I was at my wits end after 2 years, but luckily the company brought in a new manager.

Three loooong years. Actually it was the same company, but a series of terrible, mean and stupid managers. It was like the stupidest ones got promoted the quickest so I had a new boss every 6 months or so. At any time though I directly reported into at least 3 people. They were all horrible, it was almost like a contest to see who could be the meanest. I was constantly getting pulled into a closed door meeting to discuss my ‘poor performance’ even though I was a pretty good employee and got good results. It’s like they had nothing else to do, or at least nothing more interesting to do.
Yeah it was awful, there’s not much more I can say about it. I would have gotten out sooner – I had interviewed and accepted a position at another company but the day before I resigned they were downgraded (it was during the financial crisis). So it took almost another year to finally secure the job I have now, which is a million billion times better!! Makes me appreciate my wonderful boss of today 🙂

Let’s just say I had the 7 year ITCH! I was there for 7.5 years and I hated every minute of it. I worked in a confined area with about 20 women that hated me. I was the young girl that loved learning and wanted to learn. I was yelled at, wrote up, belittled in front of everybody, was made to clean the floors (This is at a doctor’s office). 7.5 years…. I paid my dues and finally left. To this day when I go in, they beg me to come back. Ha, fat chance!

Less than 6 months only because it was a temporary internship. I was offered a position at the ended, but I got right outta there!!!

I’ve (thankfully) never had a horrible boss but I was stuck at a job I hated for over 2.5 years. 🙁
