I just received my dress and was told to bring it back for alterations 2 months before my wedding. I guess it really depends on where you are taking it for alterations.

We worked with a seamstress and it took several months and many many appointments.  I’m sure the experience is different with actual dress stores…dunno!

@venusandback: How complicated is your skirt? If it’s tulle with lace appliques, that could take a lot longer than a plain taffeta hem.

You should call seamstresses and dress salons ASAP and ask. It can take anywhere from a month to 3 months or even more.

I’m having my bodice taken in a bit, and the skirt hemmed (simple chiffon skirt, 3 layers), and the dress shop told me 2 months should be fine.

I had all my alterations completed within 3 weeks I think. I had a thick sash cut and attached to the bodice, straps added, and a 3 part skirt hemmed.

It depends on your dress, what needs to be done with it and who is the seamstress.  It took about 3 weeks for me, with 5 fittings.

I am worried about this too!  It seems so inconsistent from one place to the next.
