I am planning to DIY my wedding trees with orchids.. question is.. how long do you think an orchid will last hanging from fishing line? I would hate to make the trees a week before and then have them wilt on the day of.. please advise!

I’m confused – what type of orchid are you using? Are you going to water tube them? Have a sample photo?

@sfchick: there is my sample photo. What is water tubing? I am getting these 6ft trees and hanging glass balls from them and would like to also hang orchids 🙂

Orchids are pretty hardy, but once you cut the stem, you need to keep them in water to keep them fresh. I wouldn’t plan on them looking beautiful for more than a day or so. After that they will begin to wilt and brown, especially blooms that are lighter in color like white, green, etc. They do brown slowly, though, so 2 days might be safe if you keep them in ice water with orchid food mixed in. My Fiance raises orchids, so we’re using his, but we’re not planning on cutting them until the morning of.
