Completely depends on the item. Most of my (quality) jeans last several years, but I have had T shirts that didn’t make it one whole summer.

@Taeyers:  That’s really funny, most of my tee shirts I’ve had for 5 years or more, whereas my jeans, no matter how much I spend on them, wear out within a year or two (stupid thick thighs, lol)

It completely depends. Some things I expected to be “investment pieces” and wore once, some I wear constantly, and some I’ve picked up after 10 years and put back into regular rotation. Good thing I never get rid of clothes. It’s saved me money!

I like to get 2 years out of clothes. I have older pieces, but I get bored with them. However due to saving money for an upcoming mortgage & having to pay rent for the first time in my life, I certainly don’t shop like I used to!

It totally depends for me.  Nice dresses and skirts I can get years out of.  Jeans I usually wear out in a year or so (yay thick thighs!).  Shorts I can usually get a few years out of.  Cheap tanks and t-shirts from Target might last the summer.

I don’t necessarily spend a lot for clothes (especially now that I am semi-retired)…

BUT I get a long life out of what I do buy… because I am super particular about how I take care of my stuff

Treat Stains – Wash with the proper cycle, water temp etc – and 95% of my clothing WILL NEVER SEE THE DRYER

My clothes will for the most part go out of date / fashion / style… long before they ever wear out

So 5 years would be at the really low end for me, and most of my items (particularly tops) … 10 or more years is a true possibility.

Consequently… I have a lot of clothes (particulary casual clothes)

GOOD THING… I have lots to choose from

BAD THING… they require space to store (lol, and I get attached to stuff)

Truly OLD clothes tend to get recycled (Good Will) … or turned into something else (paint clothes, rags etc)

Dressy Items that I’ve worn infrequently… or “everyone has seen” in my social circle (ie cocktail dresses, long gowns etc), I tend to sell for someone else to enjoy after I’ve had em for a year or two.  They end up mostly in a local Consignment Shop or sometimes on-line.

Lol… Accessories like Shoes, Purses, Hats, Belts, Scarves, Jewellery etc… RARELY GET PITCHED (would have to be worn out, not just old).  Because I’ve found out in my lifetime, that all that stuff comes back in fashion over and over again.
