Just make your alteration appointment in advance. On average you will need three fittings. They normally say to allow 4-6 weeks for alterations but that’s to accomodate the schedule of the seamstresses who are working on multiple dresses at once. My dress arrived 10 days before my wedding and got altered in 5 days, so it’s definitely doable.

@meliss: Thank God I can use you as a stress reliever. If you can do it in 10 days, I can do it! Not sure when my dress will come in, but I have a feeling I will be in your situation! Did you make an appointment beforehand? Or at least tell your seamstress it would be coming in close to time?

@kperry3: Yup, it was a close one for me 🙂 I already had another dress to fall back on (actually two, but that’s another story) so I was prepared for the possibility it may not make it in time. I had to get my alterations done at the salon that ordered the dress. They were the ones who put in a super rush order for me and committed to get the dress ready for my wedding date, so they scheduled alterations as soon it was delivered. Of course I had to pay a lot more than I would for an independent seamstress, had to take two days off work to go for the only appointments they had available, and work with their second seamstress because the most popular and supposedly most skilled one was already booked solid. In the end it didn’t fit quite perfectly as it could have, but at least I got to wear it. Hope yours comes in earlier and you don’t have to go through that stress!
