FH and I are planning a small wedding with now 16 guests, no bridal party. We are planning to have a ‘first look’ photoshoot, followed by our bride and groom portraits somewhere off location BEFORE the garden ceremony. Immediately after the ceremony the family portraits will be taken, a couple more of us newly weds too. Then we are all off to have a fine dining lunch reception.
How long should the first look and bride/groom portraits take? (not including travel time, I can add that later). 1/2 hour? 1 hour?? 2 hours???
How long should the family photos (18 people total) after the ceremony take?

@Notcool: We gave our first look and bride/groom photos an hour, and then about 45 minutes for our family photos (We had about 20 people involved in those). We also had bridal party photos, but you don’t have a bridal party so you don’t need that. 🙂 Hope that helps!

Thanks for such a clear and helpful reply!

Our photographer gave us recommendations for time, depending on the size of your family: Bride & Groom alone 30-45 minutes, Family portraits 15-20 minutes. But that is for two photographers, rather than just one.

Our after-ceremony church photos + different location photos took about 2 hours total. But that included all of the photos with parents and bridal party too. Manuevering all of the bridal party around was definitely the most time consuming part of everything so I’d guess if you allow an hour you can get all of the pictures you want with lots time to spare.
