Help!! I’m so torn between 8 or 10 hours of photographer time for the whole day.. Our ceremony is 4:30-5, cocktail 5-6, reception 6-10pm. I want the photog. there until the end of the reception because we are doing the sparkler thing because it makes AWESOME pictures! We are also doing a pre-sighting before the ceremony and I want “getting ready” pics taken. Originally I was thinking she should get there at 2pm and we could just have her for 8 hours, but now I’m getting nervous that it won’t be enough time before the ceremony (2.5 hours) for pre sighting, family pics (we both have big families! almost 60 people total!), and bridal party pics. ALSO, it’s about a $1,300 price increase to go from 8 hrs to 10 hrs, but 10 hrs includes an engagement photo session with an 11×14 canvas print for display at reception that the 8 hrs doesn’t come with and 2 clone parent books! SO my next question: are professional e-pics super important? My mom has done a photo shoot of us before at the beach and they came out almost professionally done and she LOVES doing it, so we were just going to do that. Any suggestions / advice? Thanks bees!

We didn’t do getting ready pictures really but we had about an hour and a half before the ceremony to take pictures together. We still took up most of the cocktail hour with family pictures though.

@MrsSaltWaterTaffy: So it took almost an hour to just do family? Ahh! How long for bridal party? And did you do pre-sighting?

I have an hr alotted for pre-cermony pics, but we’re not doing “first looks”
That’s just for bridal party.. him with the Groomsmen, Bridesmaid or Best Man, both and same for me. Looking at our day of timeline it’s going to be cutting it close.
I say if you have the budget then always give yourself more time than you’d “need” just b/c you don’t know if it might take you longer to get ready or anything like that.

Our group photos were really fast, but we only dd immediate family, and didn’t have a bridal party.Probably 20 minutes, tops. We did 2 hours for our portraits just the two of us, which was fantastic! We got multiple locations, and it was just such a special time to have alone before the ceremony, away from the craziness. I think, for you, 2 1/2 hours is cutting it too close. If your hair/makeup run over even a little, you’re going to miss out on group shots you want!

Also, you can negotiate the package to get rid of the canvas and clone books – that’ll save a lot of cash. An 11×14 canvas from an online company like Bay Photo will cost a lot less than going through your photog and be of a high quality.

@crayfish: That’s true! I didn’t think about asking to get rid of those. Another option is to do the 8 hr package but add an extra hour for $350. That gives us 1pm-4:30pm for all of the pics I mentioned in my initial post AND she can stay until 10pm to get grand exit photos but it’s cheaper than jumping up to the 10 hr package. Hmm.. lots to think about!
