My ceremony begins at 2:30, when should we begin playing music for the Prelude. I’ve been to weddings where there was no Prelude and weddings where the music was already playing when we arrived a half hour before the ceremony?

@jewelandairman: We had music played for about 30 minutes prior, but I’m not really sure that there is any rule about how long or even if prelude music needs to be played! It’s totally up to you and depends on your preference! 🙂

We also had music for 1/2 hour beforehand. I think it’s nice because most people tend to feel a little more comfortable with some background music playing, vs. “it’s really quiet while we’re sitting here, waiting.”

Anywhere from one piece up to about 30 minutes is typical. More than that gets to be overkill, because nobody really hears it.
