We set general date a couple days later, but had our date secured a week later. I was nice to have an answer for all those curious askers.
In retrospect, I wish we’d waited a little and just enjoyed being engaged for a while! It probably wouldn’t have changed any of our descisions, but I still wish we’d slowed down. :/

We were engaged March 11, and wanted to get married this Fall. We figured 8 months would probably be enough time, so we set the date of Nov. 12. It was also dependent on what venues were available…many hotels and such were booked, so that narrowed it down a bit.
We set the date probably a week after we were engaged, but we got the date we wanted at the perfect venue!

we decided about six months after we got engaged. We weren’t in any hurry :).

We decided on a date about a year BEFORE we got engaged, haha

Oye vey…. does that sound familiar! The same thing happened to us. I would suggest answering with a time frame. We just told everyone “Late summer/early fall of 2012”. People were fine with that. Honestly, people just want to share your excitement so they will be happy with whatever you answer with. 🙂
We got engaged in April and didn’t set our date until July. Granted, we live 9 hours away, I went to India for a month, then when we finally got home we were able to pick a date. But still. 😀

Second, just relax and enjoy being newly engaged!
But to answer your question, we waited maybe about 6 or 7 weeks before setting a date. We got engaged early August and started to talk about a general season (decided on late Spring). Then we went away labour day weekend and didn’t start looking at venues until we came back.
Our venue was about 20% cheaper before May, so this meant that we would get married in April. We wanted late spring + 20% discount, so decided on April 30. BUT our venue was booked for that day so we choose the preceeding Saturday = April 21, 2012.
My point is, don’t stress too much about a day because you may fall in love with a venue that isn’t available on that specific day and something’s gotta give.
Have fun wedding planning!

We had been together for years and had talked about marriage for years so we picked our date before we were even engaged. and knowing what I know, it was after Fiance secretly bought the e-ring.

Congrats!! my Fiance and I set a date the day after getting engaged.

After we got engaged, we decided that we wanted to wait at least a year to save money for the wedding and to move and Fall we thought would be the best time to do it with the budget we set.

We waited about 1 1/2 yrs

We got engaged on a Friday and the venue was booked the following Tuesday. 🙂

We had a general idea (Summer 2012), so we just told people that and they seemed to back off for awhile. We ended up changing our potential date several times depending on venues we looked at and the photographer we’d picked. And then we changed it one last time when we found out some acquaintances were getting married on our original date, as it would have forced a fair number of people on our guestlist having to choose which wedding to attend. We hadn’t made any deposits yet, so it made sense to just change the date. It took us about 2-3 months after our engagement to finalize all of that.

We set the date about two weeks later. We picked the venue first, then went on available dates. When people asked immediately, we just gave the vague answer of next fall.

We’ve been engaged for four months now and we’re still trying to figure things out. He just started his master’s degree (read: less hours at work) and I’m not in a great paying job so it’s hard to figure out how much money we have to budget for a wedding. Our parents aren’t really offering to pay either so it’s on us which is fine except it’s stalling the date choice.
