Maybe we’re a little insane but we set it within 5 days. We were on vacation so we wanted to get it done by the time we got back, venues aren’t really an issue because we knew it wouldn’t be 6-9 months in the future due to school and finances. It’s kind of nice knowing that I’ve pretty much got my pick since most venues won’t book more than a year in advance in my area.

Don’t worry about the questions. We got engaged on a Friday and people were asking about dates and colours by work Monday morning. We were only engaged for 9 months so we set the date within about a month and a half

We decided the month a few weeks after and then the actual date a few weeks after that.

Congratulations. The first time I got engaged, we set the general idea for the summer two years later, but we made no plans for an actual date. About a year after we got engaged, we started looking at venues and then we chose our date based on the availabilty of the venue we wanted. That marriage subsequently failed, however.
This time around, we set the date immediately. We got engaged in July and because I’m about to finish my PhD and if I am lucky enough to get a job, I’ll have to move this summer who-knows-exactly-when to who-knows-where, we wanted to get married before that. We didn’t want to deal with possibly moving across the country and getting married at the same time. We also definitely wanted to get married in Florida, so putting it off until after the move was not a good option. So, that left my academic spring break, and since my Dad already had a cruise booked to leave the second weekend of my break, we fixed on the first weekend right away.
But to get to your issue, you’d just fine. It might be a good idea to have a set “we’re thing of (insert month, season, etc)” just to deflect the question though.

I had my date set within a week, but I’m planning from out of state and we happened to be visiting my hometown a week after we got engaged, so we booked a venue then. But, before I did that (you know, for the whole week!) I just kept telling people October 2013, that satisfied them enough until I had the date!

I have been engaged for two weeks and I wasn’t going to relax until that date had been set.
So I actually set it three days after we got engaed, made some enquires and then asked my FH if he liked the date and he loves it! Because we’re both very numerologically inclined and this date is perfect for us.
But whenever anyone asks I just tell them that it’s too early to know yet (because there are a lot of sticky beaks in my area lol and the gossip mill will melt down if they knew the date. Not because it’s so soon mind you, just so they can all start speculating on what it will be like and everything that will go wrong)
Just enjoy being engaged for a while…that’s what I’m doing now!
