- Wedding: September 2014 - Villa Celeste
Just out of curiosity, I’ve been wondering how long you bees have been engaged. By the time it’s all said and done I will have been engaged for 2.5 years. My friends and family all find this crazy, and people have often assumed that we’re having problems. Honestly, I’ve just been enjoying his company for the past couple years and I am very excited to marry him next year. Has anyone else been engaged for a long time before hand?

By the time we get married, we’ll have been engaged for 14 months. This confuses people since the wedding is basically planned, so we could have gotten married by mid -end 2013. Fiance has always wanted to wait at least a year, and our anniversary is in February. It just seemed the logical thing to do. Honestly, as excited as I am for the wedding, it really wouldn’t change anything in our relationship. It’ll just make it so that when we have a child, my parents won’t try to kill me.

@erw4338: We’re waiting exactly two years and a week! We’re grad students, and planning a wedding takes time and energy, so we thought we’d give ourselves a lot of time. A lot of the major vendors have already been booked because we realize that in the next year our programs are going to get more demanding and we won’t have as much time for these things. And we are enjoying our long engagement! It’s really fun knowing that it’s together forever and being able to enjoy it before the wedding festivities 🙂 My grandma is already on my case though to have babies! Oy!

We have been engaged for 6 months and will be together for 2 years this month. If I was in my 20’s I probably would have been engaged longer and took time to plan my wedding, but now that we are both in our mid 30’s time is a ticking. We are at the age where we just know what we want and want to move on to the next phase of our amazing relationship. We hope to start a family with in the next year.
If there is no need to move fast towards a wedding, then don’t. Enjoy your engagement as long as you can 🙂

4 months. I never wanted a long engagement, and the planning would have driven me crazy! Once we got engaged, I just wanted to be his wife. I should also mention that we had a small wedding with about 40 people at my mom’s cabin, so we didn’t need a lot of time to plan.

@erw4338: 2.5 years here, too! People always think we’re crazy, but I don’t care. We were together 10 years (started dating at 15) before he proposed so people tend to think that was crazy too. Whatevs. We’ll be getting married after being together for 12.5 years and I couldn’t be happier. I know more than a handful of people that I went to high school with who got married on a whim or after a couple of months of being engaged. Now they’re all divorced.

We’ll be engaged for about 22 months. Funny thing is that we could easily afford to have a wedding this year, but both of us really want to do the wedding in our backyard and we need the extra year to fix up the yard. Totally worth the wait 🙂

2 years. Ended up buying a house a couple of weeks after we got engaged and have been doing a total remodel so we decided to push the wedding back a year. I think picking out paint colors and bridesmaid dresses at the same time would have driven my insane!
