We planned ours for about a year. There were only a few months that were actually full of planning though. We planned for a bit right when we got engaged, a little bit at about 6 months out and a lot right before the wedding. I think it’s important to take breaks.

Do you have a venue yet? That’s one of the things that books out the farthest.

We got engaged Nov 2012, and are getting married in Feb 2014 (soon, eek!). We took it really easy until about Jan/Feb, and have been planning on and off since. Now we’re focused on the wedding, of course, because it’s getting close to crunch time!

@Katyxa: I spent a few months researching magazines and looking on-line for ideas and inspiration. I booked the venue a year before. I’d be panicking if there were only a few months to go – not wanting to panic you.

I’ve been planning for almost a year now. When we first got engaged I jumped straight into planning, and then it kinda trailed off for about 3 months or so.

@Katyxa:  We’ve been sharing “wedding ideas” almost as soon as we started dating (e.g. you drive by a nice place and say “This would make a nice wedding venue, what do you think?” Over a year later that is still our preferred venue and we’ll be checking out openings later this month.)

My dress is being custom-made, will have my first fitting at the end of this month. FI already has his tux ready. We still haven’t finished choosing the bridal party yet, so their clothes are not ready yet either.

Our preparations are laid back and slow-moving…. there’s no rush, after all. lol

Actual planning will be around 6 months. Planning as in having a secret Pinterest board and wedding mags under my bed? 2 + years. Wink

@Katyxa:  I’d say you better hop to it!

I have anxiety because the bridesmaid dresses haven’t been ordered, the ceremony musicians haven’t been booked, and we are still unsure about our officiant 6 months out!
