i wanted to do a simpler version of this centerpiece: http://www.hostessblog.com/2010/03/diy-modern-spring-centerpiece-ideas/#more-11265
…basically a rectangle vase, with soaked floral foam and fresh carnations. since we will have to be making around 40, i was wondering how long in advance do you think i can make them? 1 or 2 days?

Carnations are one of the longest lasting flowers. You should be able to do them at least a couple of days ahead.
The easiest way to know for sure is to make a sample, keep in in the same conditions that will be available at the time of your wedding and see how well they last.

Sure…carnations last a long time. I made centerpieces of carnations last Saturday, and just threw some of them out today. 9 days and most still look great!
