One of my friends at college got engaged last week! They are getting married next May, so that’s about 14 months. BUT she’s going to Peru with me next spring, so it’s actually more like 9 months because everything has to be planned and finished by December. Just thinking about it stressed me out! I’m glad I have so much time, but at the same time I feel like it’s never going to happen!

Ours is going to be a little less than 2 years. We got engaged this past NYE and our wedding will be November 2012. We could have had it sooner, but we want to save the cash to pay it all off without having change our normal spending habits too much. We also have a lot of time to research vendors and have our choice of the vendors we want to choose becase we know our date is open this far in advance. Plus by booking things so far in advance we have been offered some really great deals.
So dont worry about what people say, in the end you have to do what is right for you.

just under three months. he proposed in late January and our wedding day is April 16. we originally thought we’d have a slightly longer engagement, but plans change and we’re both happy for the timing…this way is just more us 🙂
and you should do what feels right to you and works with your lives.

Thanks everyone! Some days i LOVE our long engagement because there are pluses to having more time to plan, etc., and somedays I get a little bit bummed out by everyone’s “disapproval”. It’s like this somehow makes us “less engaged” or something; we’ve been together for 7 years, we knew 6 years ago that we’d get married eventually, what’s the rush NOW?!
PS- Props to those ladies who planned a wedding in less than 6 months though! Seriously, that’s really impressive!!

In a million years. 🙁 In reality, we are 14 months out (yeesh) and total will be around 18 months.

we have a 22 month engagement, and plan on getting married this October. It’s what worked for us- we both have crazy families so we had to figure out invites, etc; we needed to save money, and we had to schedule around our work schedules… Plus we both love the fall 🙂 So long engagement it is. We are actually getting married on our seven year anniversary! But allthat aside, lately, I have been feeling slightly annoyed by the “you aren’t married yet?!” comments… That, and the friends we have who have met, gotten engaged, married and had babies in the time that we have pratically been engaged!!! But to each their own, I guess…. What works for them, works for them, and what works for us, works for us… All I know is that I am soooooo excited to almost be at the six month countdown!!!

22 months! I’m totally happy with it. We’ll be getting married on our 7 yr anniversary. I know I’ve said this before, but being engaged is such a fleeting and temporary moment in your life, why wouldn’t you want to enjoy it?! I get 22 whole months of being a bride!! I’m already 7 months into it and I can’t believe how fast it has been flying by.

Personally, with you being in Grad school, the time is going to go by SO fast, and you are going to be happy it is out of the way come wedding planning/wedding. My Fiance and I will have been engaged for a year and 10 months when we get married. Long time, but we wanted a fall wedding, we are in grad school so have no money (and certainly wouldn’t have had it before now/we graduate in June) and my mom was very sick, so our priorities were her and not us. Maybe it’s just that I personally have had a lot going on this last year and that is why it went fast, but I think that you will be happy in the end you waited!
You could also elope and have a reception in 2012. Maybe that will make them stop fussing 😉
