So I just bought my dress, and am getting married in October.
The dress fits perfect around the waist, but the bust is too big. And its too long.
I would like to lose 10 pounds for the wedding…hopefully could do it by June/July.
Question is, should I just wait until I lose the weight and get all the alterations done then? I feel like its pointless to get it fixed now, then have to get it taken in later. Don’t you have to pay each time you get an alterationd done?

I’ve always heard 6 weeks before the wedding, but why don’t you talk to the seamstress you’re planning on using. And I don’t have to pay for my alterations until I pick up my dress and then it’s a flat rate for the work done, not how many times I was there.

Thanks Michelle, I wasn’t aware that you just pay after everything is done. Does that mean most places will just keep the dress stored until you want it? I have no space for my dress in my apartment!

That would probably be a question for the seamstress. While it’s being worked on and until the wedding, I’m sure they would. But until then, depending on their storage situation, they may not be able to.

from what my seamstress told me, about 3 months out is normal. I am getting married une 5 and my first fitting is March 2, but i will probably need 3 fittings which are usually about 3-4 weeks apart, so ill probably be cutting it close but should be fine.
