I posted previously about how FH and I hired someone to do some yardwork and stuff around the house. Before she started, we had her come to our house to show her what needed to be done. She hit our mailbox, but apologized and said she would pay for it. Since we are hiring her because we are too busy, we asked if she would arrange to get it fixed, she agreed. So we hired her. A week later, she hadn’t done anything about fixing the mailbox (if she didn’t know who to contact, she should have asked). Since we live in a HOA, I needed to get it fixed so we wouldn’t have fines, so I made the calls and let her know I was doing so. She was mediocre, we were paying her by the hour and she was extremely slow, and didn’t come once when I thought it was clear. We had a very pleasant phone conversation where she told me she has a medical issue (she has known about for a year that just hasn’t gotten better) but now can’t do anything but light housework. I told her I was sorry to hear that, informed her of the cost of the mailbox ($500), deducted what she had earned from us ($200), and the remaining total was $300. (We have to have certain mailboxes in our HOA). I was expecting her to not be able to pay it immediately and was willing to set up a payment arrangement. She told me she’d write me a check and send it in the mail. I thanked her and told her I hoped her condition improved.
A week and a half later, still no check in the mail. I appreciate how she accepted responsibility and I don’t want to ask too soon, but I would like to get this resolved. How long should I wait before I contact her?
