Just trying to plan out the BIG DAY!!! So, with our venue for the reception we get 3 hours of open bar. We are having cocktail hour while we get pictures from 5-6pm. We will be announced at 6:30…first question….would you guys do the 1st dance at this time before dinner?? I was then thinking dinner from 7-8 with bar closed and serving our favorite wines. Then opening the bar from 8-10 and ending. That just seems early to me. We can add an extra hour for $5 per person…but that puts us over budget about $600…but is that a small price to pay for an awesome reception that lasts til 11???
Thanks for your advice ladies!

I personally am not a drinker but I would reconsider having open bar up til the end of your reception. I would think stop the alcohol atleast an hour before. I would do the first dance after you get introduced. Receptions usually last 4-5 hours. If you are already over budget save your money. Do you feel like you will have enough time??

I wouldn’t worry about having an open bar for the last hour- it gives peope time to get ready to go home, especially if they have been drinking earlier. If you still want alcohol available and can’t fit it into your budget, you can always do a cash bar for the last hour. We have a similiar timeline. Our ceremony is at 5:30 and cocktail hr. from 6:30-7:30 while we do pics. We are actully going to be introduced and then eat dinner from 7:30-9:00(cash bar during this time) and bar will reopen from 9-11 and our reception ends at 12am. We are going to kick off the dancing part of the reception after dinner- we didn;t want everyone staringg at us dancing wondering when they were going to get to eat. IMO when people know the open bar will only be open for a limited time they tend toi drink a little faster and double fist the drinks. Good luck with everything!

@jschneider1145: I think ending at 10pm will be just fine, even if people stay and dance til 11!
