- Wedding: April 2013
First off, Darling Husband and I were SO impressed by our guests’ generosity. This isn’t intended as a whiny gift-grabby thread.
15 of the 39 parties who attended our wedding haven’t (yet) given a gift. One of them gave us a card. Only two of these 15 have since asked where we are registered or otherwise expressed that they intend to give us a gift.
We have until three months after the wedding to cash in on our registry completion discount and are figuring out how many of the items (if any) to purposely leave on the registry for people to still purchase. How long is a reasonable time period to wait before assuming that the people who haven’t given gifts by that point won’t give gifts at all? (Yeah I know that “you have one year to send a gift,” but is this actually other brides’ experience?)
We received almost enough cash and gift cards to cover what’s left on our registry but would obviously be happy to divert some of that money to other purposes if people are still going to give us gifts. 9 of the 15 parties in question traveled to the wedding, and we are totally OK if their money went toward travel expenses. 🙂
If you intentionally left some items on your registry past the completion discount deadline, how did you decide how much to keep there? Did you try to maintain a variety of price points? Did people still buy off your registry at 3+ months after your wedding?
