Fiance had it for a month before he proposed. I had no idea! He wanted to wait until he could ask my parents in person over the holidays. The funny thing is, I had just decided that he wasn’t going to do it over the holidays when he didn’t propose at "our christmas" before leaving for our families. I had a nice talk with my therapist about always waiting for it and letting myself down, and decided my christmas present to myself was to let it go he would do it in his own time. Then on New Years eve he damn near gave me a heart attack and proposed!!!

I actually didn’t know he had it, but he went to pick it up right before we went on vacation for a few days. The day we came back, he proposed!

he dragged (yes, I know that is not what normally happens, but I was scared sh*%less to go into a ring store!) sometime in May/June-ish. He had the ring custom-made and picked it up the day he asked my parents AND proposed to me! He couldn’t wait and I was exstatic!

Seven. F’ing. Months. We picked it out together in November, and he proposed in June. We live together and I knew where it was hidden, and it was an awful and stressful time… me pressuring him to just give me the darn thing already, and him getting irritated that I wouldn’t give him time to execute his ‘perfect plan’.

I can’t imagine the anxiety of actually knowing where it was hidden (for those of you who live with your S.O.’s)…It would seriously kill me!
It seems as though 3-4 months is the average…*sigh*…Not sure I’ll be able to stay sane that long!

He bought it I think about a week before he proposed, but we had picked it out together about a month before that. He was going to wait a few more weeks, but his family convinced him to do it sooner!

We picked one out last June and I waited and waited, we had a bad experience with Robbins bros, so we decided (after I had already been waiting forever) that we would get a simpler ring somewhere else and get a more fancy ring for my wedding band… so then I had to wait again for him to find a simpler ring… then the day after thanksgiving, we were at the mall and found some jewelry stores that were closing and found a $10,000 Diamond ring that I fell in love with for $2K. We got it on the spot, and he proposed that Sunday.
So technically I waited almost 6 months, and then I waited 2 days lol.

All in all 6 months.
We found the ring in October. But didn’t want to keep the exact old european cut diamond, sold the stone, and then he was on the hunt for the "new" diamond.
He’d been telling me since the end of February to "just wait – there’s a surprise for your april visit" (he’s in kuwait, i am in oregon, so opportunites to pass on the ring were limited).
Upon my arrival in Kuwait I waited 2 nights. He then proposed in a pottery painting place on a marina of the persian gulf. I can only imagine how his heart felt, mine was ready to leap out of my chest.

About 1 minute!!! We shopped for and purchased the ring together and I was closest when the call came that it had come in. I got the ring (refused to try it on in the store) and drive like a mad-woman home where he was waiting for me. I walked in and handed him the box, he dropped down on one knee and proposed…..

My Fiance had my ring for a little over three months before he proposed–I had no idea! He was away at school and was waiting until we saw each other again over the holidays to propose. He said it always made him smile whenever I brought up marriage because he knew just what was in store for us in the future, but I had no idea.

I have everyone beat! =D He had the ring for 1 year and 8.5 months before he proposed! He actually started putting down payments towards it 1 year and 10 months before. (And I knew the whole time! He told me about it. Though technically I suppose you could say he "proposed" to me 1 month after he started paying it down…he asked me to wear his favourite spinner ring on a necklace until he had bought the engagement ring and was allowed to formally propose.)

We had gone to Tiffanys several times together and I noticed that in the last few times his attitude was different. After he proposed -in April- he told me that he had bought the ring in February and that the same guy (who used to help us when we used to go together) did the whole transaction!

About 3 days (I did not know he had it). He had been waiting for months for the right diamond to appear on Blue Nile and was more than ready to do it!

We went to look in September.
He bought it in January. He had for about 4 hours before he gave it to me. He was so antsy… I knew something was going down.
Does anyone else get warm fuzzies remembering the look on his face when he kneeled down in front of you (or however it happened)?

About three hours. I went to meet him after work so we could head out to dinner (I did know the ring was getting picked up that day) and I turned away for a split second and he was down on his knee in the middle of a parking garage. I was so certain he wasn’t going to surprise me with it, but I was shocked he did it right there and then (I was expecting it over dinner) and we enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the place we first had our date.
