Hi bees I’m 26 and recently got engaged…we found our perfect venue but its a bit over our budget so we were thinking of moving the wedding to fall 2015 to give us more time to save…however that will be close to Noreen years of being engaged…is that too long? Include your age too, if you want to of course 🙂

I would never, ever wait that long. I cared way more about being married than what venue I had. I was engaged for 4 months. We were 38 and 41 when we got married. But even if I were younger I wouldn’t have waited that long.

That does seem like a really long time! I am 28 and he is 32 – we will be engaged for a year when we get married – but we got engaged after dating for only 10 months.

It’s not too long if it’s what YOU want. I’m 27 (FI is 31) and we’ll have been engaged for 18 (almost 19) months by the time the wedding rolls around.
ETA: We’ll have been together almost 5 years by the time we’re married, and he proposed after 3.5.

@oneofthesethings: Had just turned 30 when we got engaged and married exactly 18 months later. Could’ve done it the following year so been engaged for two and a half years, but at the time my Future Mother-In-Law was suffering with arthritis and mobility

His parents aren’t in the best of health either.

We had been dating for 11 years when he proposed. Our engagement will be 11 months long.

Wow, that is a really long time. I am 25 and my fiance is 26. We got engaged on July 7, 2012 and are getting married on July 27, 2013! We considered waiting until summer 2014 to get married, but 2 years is just too long.

We met in July of 2011, got engaged in Jan 2012, married in Sep 2012; so engaged for 8 months.

We will be engaged for 13 months. We were originally going to have a five month engagement because we just didn’t want to drag out the planning/obsessing for something that we just wanted to be a simple affair, but his cousin made a comment about me being pregnant, so we reconsidered because we didn’t want anyone to feel like we “rushed.” I say do whatever! Honestly, if you’re 100% sure about the marriage, I say a shorter engagement is the way to go.

We are 27 (me) and 29 (FH). We got engaged on December 9, 2012 and will be married on April 27, 2013. That’s about 4.5 months. We will have been together almost 5 years by the time we get married. We are just ready to get married and did not want to have the big splashy wedding.
To each his or her own though.

We’re going to be engaged just shy of 2 years 🙂 We need to graduate and move in together, so we are enjoying our time together as fiances. We have one year left and are just getting started with the venue stuff. It’s really nice to take the time to plan and enjoy yourselves. I dont think waiting till 2015 would be terrible. You have to do what makes you happy, if you want to wait for a venue, then do it! Maybe you could have a small ceremony and save up for the big party in 2015. Whatever you do, I wish you luck.
