I think it took us like a month to decide the time frame, the actual date I think we decided about 2-3 months after getting engaged.

It took us just over 2 years. We got engaged in August 2009 and then had a baby in October 2009 so the wedding wasn’t really the priority. Then in February 2012 we realised that our finances would work for us to have a wedding soon, so that was when we chose our date.

Before he proposed I told him I wanted at least a year to plan a wedding.  He proposed at the end of December, we hemmed-and-hawed through most of January about it, while I contacted places I liked to ask about their availabilty, and we decided on a date sometime in early February, for the following February (I wasn’t kidding when I said I wanted a year to plan!)

We decided on a season when we first got engaged but due to other circumstances had to move it forward, so when we finally knew the month we would have to get married in we looked for a venue and booked it from there! July 13,2013 <3!

We had a date range that evening, but didn’t have a final date until we found a venue a few weeks later.

We got engaged on 1/28/11 and people were asking us, like, an hour later when we were going to get married.

Like …. really?!?!?!

We knew it was going to be a long engagement and didn’t even set a date until 8 months later.

Total engagement will be 33 months. We got critisized up and down for it and actually lost a few friends who were being super judgemental and snarky but, hey, we are paying for most everything ourselves and we had a lot of job/family issues to sort out first.

Just do what works for you guys and don’t worry about anyone else.

@radar:  We picked a date in about two weeks but our engagement is going to be over a year long. I think you’re wise to pick based on the venue. From what ‘ve read if you are a year or less away from your date you absolutely have to be more flexible. And take into consideration the busy season – May, June, kinda July, September, and October.

We set the date 2 weeks after the initial engagement. We knew the month we wanted to wed beforehand but it was all a matter of 2014 or 2015. Then we just figured it out.
