How long were you thinking/researching your ideal ring before actual proposal?

I started researching on rings about a month or two before my SO bought it. I’m still waiting for a proposal but my ring is locked up and kept in his cupboard.

The actual proposal hasn’t happened yet, but we have gone ring shopping! I have had a “wedding” Pinterest for ages, but I didn’t seriously start pinning rings I liked until maybe 6 months ago.

We visited one store together last month so I could try on rings and see what looked good on my hand and I wound up liking something completely different! I thought I would love the delicate halo/pave band look, but wound up loving the more vintage, intricate look (Sylvie Collection is stunning). I picked out a few settings I liked, pinned more on Pinterest, and he’s taking it from here! He encourages me to send photos of ones I like to him for inspiration. I have a feeling he’s getting something custom. For a week after we shopped I was obsessively looking at settings online, but I’ve slowed down a lot since. I think I now trust him to get a feel for what I like!

I had 2-3 rings/ring ideas that I’d liked for years before engagement even came up. Honestly, I’ve had a pretty solid idea of what I wanted as a ring since I was about nineteen. I love jewelry and follow a ton of jewelry blogs obsessively, have for ages since before my fiance was even a twinkle in my eye.

Not at all. No Pinterest boards, nothing. It was a total surprise when he proposed and I knew he’d pick a nice ring.

Not all — I wasn’t really expecting it. I pretty much thought of e-rings looking pretty much one way. I guess I didn’t spend much time paying attention.

DH and I knew we were going to get married about 2 months into our relationship, so I started reseraching rings around that time. I knew I wanted a moissy (thanks to WB!) and looked through every setting on MoissaniteCo over the next couple of years. I kept coming back to a particular setting, so I knew that must be it. I think I had determined which setting I wanted about 6 months before the proposal, and I sent the link to DH when he told me he was seriously about to buy me the ring.

I’m still a waiting bee but the timeline he gave me is Christmas or Valentine’s Day (my b-day) he will propose. When we first started talking about getting married I was dead set on getting a Morganite ring. I have a post I made about the ring I wanted awhile back. I thought I wanted a cushion cut halo Morganite. And a big one lol. Then I fell in love with floral inspired rings and loved a lotus flower ring on Etsy, for over a year. I thought for sure that would be my ring. Now we have been talking about getting engaged more seriously and we are both ready. So once he gave me a price point I started researching rings for a solid month and found my dream ring. Now David Klass is almost done with my pink moissanite floral inspired ring. But to answer the question I’ve been casually researching rings since I knew I wanted to marry him back when we were at a year and 8 months together. Now we’re at almost 4 years 😊 And I started seriously researching for a month and found the ring.

I have had a wedding Pinterest board and liked rings on Instagram for as long as I can remember, but my style and what I wanted has changed over time, especially once I started seriously looking and trying things on. I went from wanting a cushion with halo to a solitaire oval.

I would say it’s been about 7 months of serious research and visiting jewelry stores until we finally went and selected the center stone and are having the setting custom designed! I can’t wait to see it come together!

MissMul :  I researched for 2 months before we ended up putting down a deposit / designing the ring. So, not too much time!

I’m not engaged yet or even waiting yet, but I’ve been looking online for six months or so. My SO knows I want to pick out my ring when the time comes, so I’ve been browsing. I do know the exact ring at this point, but I also told him I’d like to go to the store when the time comes so we can see the stones in person (I want moissanite). He doesn’t know I have the ring picked out though. Haha.

I did not do any research myself. No pinboards, no shopping together. Unbeknowing to me, my FI spent 5 months researching, visiting jewelers, and talking to all our friends and family before our engagement. I had no idea he was even shopping for a ring. We are in our early 30’s so we have had plenty of friends getting engaged and married in the 3 years we have been together that I’m sure conversations and opinions about their rings have happened. He knows me well enough to know that I like classic and timeless things and don’t really get caught up in the details. We both prioritize quality over quantity in most all our decisions and try to buy local as much as possible. He ended up buying a gorgeous single carat, F color, VS, princess solitaire, sized to my finger from a local jeweler. He’s the researcher in the family and never makes an important decision without due diligence so I never felt inclined to research myself. I knew when the time was right, it would be perfect and it was.
