daniellemc :  you always have a choice in whatever medical care is being rendered to you and you always have the option to refuse. They might make you sign a form saying you are refusing care but they can’t tie you down and stick an IV in you absent a court order giving someone else authority to make decisions for you. I was hemorrhaging and they still took 30 seconds to say “Lilli you’re bleeding more than we’re comfortable with and the shot we gave you isn’t helping – is it ok if we start an IV drip to try something else?”.  This is actually why I picked a hospital-based midwife service. The are very supportive of letting the mother make her own choices and for minimizing interventions….but if you need them they are all right there ready to go.

I would just think with the spotting combined with the several days of regular contractions they’d be more concerned since you’re not at term? Are you sure you’re not leaking amniotic fluid? Fwiw my water broke at 39 weeks – it was pink tinged and just coming in little squirts, not the dramatic bucket of water everywhere like in the movies. I was then admitted and was found to be only at 1cm, but since my water had broken they induced me.
