Hi Bees! I’m trying to make appointments at bridal salons to find my dress (yay!) and I’m not sure how many salons to schedule. I’m hoping to find “the one” at the first place, of course, but I know that’s idealistic.
How many salons did you go to before finding your dress? How many appointments did you book for one day? How long do appointments typically last?

I went to 2 only — one was just to browse and the other I had a dress (which turned into *the* dress) in mind. Make sure you’ve browsed dresses a lot and go to a salon with the designers you like/are in your price range…

I would say book at least two but try and make your first stop the place that will most likely have THE dress.

There really isn’t a set “number”. I think some girls get bogged down in the search for some fantasy in their head and end up going way overboard trying dresses on. Most salons will have a website or an info pamphlet that tells you what designers they carry – go to those designers’ websites and browse through, taking note of dresses/styles you’re really into. Make an appointment at 1-2 salons and just go in with an open mind but also some set guidelines (ex: if you hate taffeta, tell them no taffeta).

@MissCalifornia: I didn’t even think to do that – I was just printing off pictures of random dresses, which will probably help to show my taste, but I’m sure it will be more helpful if they actually carry the dresses I’m showing pictures of lol. Thanks!

@chrissyb464: The salon I went to last year even gave me an email address so I could send them links to dresses I wanted to see – they had them pulled before my appointment, it was great. I find that smaller boutiques will give you better service than larger, though. At least in my experience.

There is definitely no set number like a bee mentioned. If you find it, great, cancel the rest. But make as many as you can fit in your schedule.
I went to about 6 salons and tried on almost 100 dresses!

i went to two! the first one i went to i had an okay time. I felt all the dresses were beautiful but none of them were me. I didnt “love” any of them. When i went to my second shop, the first dress i tried on i realized that feeling i was missing. After trying on about 6 dresses i decided to try that first one again. she was def the one 🙂 I think it depends though. If you know exactly what youre looking for and you have a competent consultant then things should go smoothly. I felt like my consultant knew exactly what i wanted.

I only went to one! The second dress I tried was THE ONE, but I tried on about 6.
In retrospect, I wish I had gone to more than one and tried on more dresses, but I think that’s more for the experience, and less about the dress.
It totally depends on you!

@dolly1105: I hope I have the same experience as you!! I don’t want to turn into one of those women on Say Yes to the Dress who has tried on 300 dresses and still can’t find “the one”. In fact, I’m hoping I’m the polar opposite lol. I just want to go to one place, find a dress I love, and move on to the next item on the wedding planning checklist 🙂

I went to 3, all in one weekend (long-distance bride). Found my dress at the 3rd place!

I only went to 2. One, spur of the moment at my mom’s suggestion, and the other because I had a specific dress in mind and they were the only store in an hour radius that carried it. I tried on probably 10 dresses total, and I am ordering that dress (*the* dress!!) that I wanted to see in the first place 🙂

I went to 1 and took in pictures of what I liked but it really came down to me having a awesome consultant. She was a manager and doesn’t work on commision so she really took time getting to know me and ended up pulling a dress I hated on the hanger and had nothing from the pictures I showed her. I just fell in love. I would plan for 2 and then go from there if you need to. And learn from and don’t focus to much on the pictures or what it looks like on the hanger, trust your consultant and try on every dress they bring you, if it starts going in the wrong direction just take control and say these are great but can I try on something more like this.
