I read somewhere that it is safe to have 1 bridesmaid per 50 guests, unless you have 50, then its ok to have 2. those were the guidelines I followed. But honestly it was just enough because it was hard to choose out of my friends. But most importantly it helped my FH because he wanted to have each of his best friends standing up, equallying to 10 people on his side, with only 200 guests!

I have 8 bridesmaids, and I definitely didn’t follow the guidelines mentioned above.  I have 4 sisters and 4 very close friends that I used to live with, so I could either only have my sisters and no friends in my wedding or have 8 bridesmaids.  I choose 8 bridesmaids, and I am glad I did becasue some of my friends are very excited about it.

I think I’ll end up with between 3-5. I plan to ask 5 ladies, but not sure if 2 will be able to do it (one may be pregnant around the time of our wedding and won’t be able to travel if so, the other is across the country and not sure if she’d be able to fly back for the wedding).

We’re not having any attendants. ๐Ÿ™‚ Unless Fiance caves and asks a friend/”brother” of his to be best man, in which case I might ask a lifelong friend of mine if she’d be willing to stand with me.

I’m having two. My best friend and a friend I met through my Fiance (she was the first to befriend me when we started dating 3 years ago), and my Fiance will have his best friend and my brother beside him.

I had 7 bridesmaids and 150 guests. I’ve never heard of the guidelines mentioned above.

I have never been a fan of larger bridal parties. I wanted two but ended up with three to appease my Fiance (I added his sister).

My cousin is having 10, YES 10!!!

I haven’t heard of any guidelines…I’m having 4 BMs and 140ish guests.  I did want FH and I to have matching numbers, so he has 4 guys on his side as well.

@onyx81:  Exactly the same situation! I know some people think it’s excessive but when you have a lot of sisters and a few really good friends, it’s not fair to have to exclude your friends just because you have sisters! ๐Ÿ™‚ so watch me parade my wedding army down the aisle ๐Ÿ˜‰

We’re probably having around 150 guests and we each have 6 standing up for us. Never heard of any guidelines, I think you should have however many people you want to have, afterall, it’s your wedding!

I have never heard of the guidelines mentioned above… I just picked the women to stand next to me that I wanted to share the special day with… so I have 8.

    – 1 chilldhood friend

    – 2 sisters

    – 5 college girlfriends that could easily fall into the ” sister” or ” people I felt like I have know all of my life” category.

It just so happened than my Fiance had exactly 8 groomsmen in mind as well!
