I am sticking with uneven numbers. FI has 6 (including Best Man) and I’m having 5 (including MOH). I hate the idea of “fillers” for the sake of having even numbers. I only want the girls most special to me at my side!

We both happen to have 5, but I wouldn’t be upset if we were one or two short on either side. Why can’t your friend still be in the wedding? Is she unable to attend, or do you think it will be too difficult for her to get a dress etc?

I’m having four-ish.

My three best friends will be standing up with me as BM’s.

My younger sister (MOH) will be wearing the same dress, but escorting the four flower girls (7, 4, 3, 23 months) down the aisle and sitting with them as two of them are her children.

FI is having three GM’s including his best man, who is his nephew (9).

My sister and I are not SUPER close but I did want her included so this was our compromise.

I had two, a MOH and a bridesmaid. The first time I got married, I had four and it was too stressful.

We each had 6 attendants.  It would’ve been 7 but his sister politely declined.  (We’re not that close, I really only asked to be polite as well.)  We had another guy-friend on tap if she had said yes to keep the numbers even, but we didn’t feel bad about not asking him once she said no.  I don’t think he expected to be in it anyway.

I had six. It honestly wasn’t very complicated at all. Helps that my girls were all pretty chill! And I like to think I was a pretty chill bride. 😉

We’re having 10 (5 on each side). FI really wanted to ask another friend (so we’d have 5/6), but I had to say no because then that would lead to him wanting to ask his other cousin the next time we see him, etc.

@stephko99:  Why does she need to travel to you “a few times” to participate? Have her buy a dress near her (if you really want her, offer to help pay for part of the dress), and she really doesn’t have to travel to you until the day of the wedding…it’s nice when BMs can help out before the wedding, but you can be a BM and not do anything…I’ve been a BM, Junior BM, and Flower Girl in the past over the years and never once has anybody asked me to do anything other than buy the dress and show up the day of the wedding wearing it and smiling…If you want them all in the same dress, buy from some local chain so she can buy near her, or have her get professional measurements taken so that you can order for her near you when you go w/ other girls…or let go and do a little mismatched look so that she can go shopping on her own. Also, as others have said, an uneven bridal party isn’t a bad thing either!

Oh and answer to the main question: Sister/MOH, Cousin/BM, Best Friend/BM for me and for him it’s Brother/Best Man, Best Friend/GM, and FBIL (aka my brother)/GM, so 3 and 3
