The norm is 6-8 p/person p/hour (atleast thats what was suggested by our venue). I think 5 could work but I’m not sure about decreasing it. Sorry, I’m sure that wasn’t helpful at all.

While we’re not having a cocktail hour, our venue’s catering menu for an hors d’oeuvre reception has the base package at serving 4-5 pieces per guest. There’s an option to upgrade to 6-7 pieces per guest. 🙂

@Evie19: Hi Evie, I never write on here but wanted to reply to you and possibly ease your worry 🙂 My fiance and I were originally going to have a meat/veggie display and 2 passed horderves. Our caterer, however, told us that one passed horderve and the display would be best and that it would be plenty an hour before a meal.

Maybe, you could do a display like this? Then, guests eat as many bites as they want. Anyways, I know it sounds like your guests need 5+ appetizers but according to the caterers we have spoken with, they don’t.

I don’t think its necessary if you have drinks and a 5-course meal.. people will be chit chatting and probably wont even eat all that you pay for
