I’m curious to know this too as we are planning on having cupcakes too!

I’m doing cupcakes as well.. I am having a cupcake stand that holds 300 and we are just doing vanilla and chocolate options. However, it is up to you how many selections you have.. being that you have 84, you might want to narrow it down to 2 options so that your guests still have an option of a flavor. I’m afraid if you have too many options you aren’t going to have very many of each kind..

I’d say 2 flavors unless you wanted to up your count to, say, 100 cupcakes. Remember, some guests will want to try different flavors so it’s better to over order.

We are doing 160 cupcakes for 140 people in 3 flavors:  chocolate with raspberry filling, Boston Creme, and vanilla cake.

I think you’re good with 84 if you have a grooms cake too.  (I’m assuming the 9 inch is for cutting and saving only)  Since there’s a grooms cake I would have that be one flavor and then have two cupcake flavor options.  So you have a total of three flavors.  I would have the top tier match one of the cupcake options.

Just to give you a numbers perspective….We had 270 guests, had 230 cupcakes made and came home with about 60 in leftovers.

You don’t necessarily need the same amount of cupcakes as you do guests

we also had a large cake and sweet table. people are so full by the time the cupcakes come that they don’t eat as many as you think

What flavors are you considering?  I’m not eating sweets and I want to live vicariously haha.

If your groom’s cake is a different flavor than the cupcakes, then just do 2 cupcake flavors. It sounds like you have plenty of cake. I’d just be wary of having the most popular flavor run out immediately, which may happen if you start ordering too many flavors. Even with 3 options, you’d only be ordering 25ish of each flavor.

We’re doing 2 flavors of cake, with 200 pieces for 150-170 guests. We’ll likely have some leftover, but we’d always rather over order and have happy guests.

I would pick 2.

@Happy7:  You should do a new thread with a poll of those flavors and let the hive vote.  It’s always interesting to see which flavors are more popular given the choices.  If it were me I would go with chocolate grooms cake (because that’s the traditional choice) and then red velvet and lemon love for the cupcakes.

We had 300 cupcakes for 230 people.  We had 4 flavors:chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and lemon.  FYI we had tons of cupcakes left over, but our close family and friends were happy to take them!

I like variety, so I’d go with 3: chocolate, vanilla and something fun. But you’d be fine with just chocolate and vanilla, if that’s cheaper/easier.
