15 dozen would be exactly 1 cupcake and 1 cookie person if you had 180 guests. I’d expect 1 of each per person to be decent – since some people will only partake of one or the other and others will take multiple of each. 12 dozen is 144 of each which would be slightly more than 1 of each per person if you have only 125 people.

Do you have to give the exact count right now for how many to order? Could you give them the exact number you need like 2-3 weeks before the event when you have a better idea?

rckeeper :  We got married almost two weeks ago and did something similar. We had a small cake for cutting, then had mini cupcakes, assorted cheesecakes, and cream puffs. There was enough for everyone to have one of each because not everyone likes the same desserts and we assumed some people would take more than one of certain things. It worked out well and I’m glad we ordered as much dessert as we did. Our venue even packed up the leftovers for us to take home!

The last wedding I was at had 100 people attend and they ordered 200 cupcakes, they had 7 left at the end of the night. I think it really depends on your guests, they had a lot of people who loved sweets so people went back for more since they are so convenient to grab. Just something to think about.

We did something similar. We had 4 dozen cupcakes, 5 dozen mini desserts and 5 pies for about 90 people. All the cupcakes and mini desserts were gone and we had a about 2 pies left.

We did something similar as well. We had a small cake for cutting. then did 60 cupcakes, about 60 slices of assorted cheesecake, mini brownies (probably about 50) and some chocolate covered pretzels. we had about 80 guests and we had way to much dessert left over! lol we even gave our driver an entire cheesecake to take home!

Also, we were not liking the prices we were getting from bakeries. We ended up getting the cupcakes, cheesecake and cake from Vons! FOr the cake, 60 cupckaes and the cheesecake we spent about $100usd! I made the brownies and the pretzels.

rckeeper :  I don’t think people expect it but it would kind of suck if some people took more than one then you ran out becuase you only did one per person and some people didn’t get any because they didn’t want one at the time, if that makes sense.

I would skip the cookies and just stick with cupcakes if I were you. Unless these are some gourmet cookies that rock your socks off, skip it and focus on cupcakes. The way I see it is if people are given that many choices for dessert, they often overdo it and take more than they will actually eat. I am nuts for dessert so in your scenario I could easily see myself grabbing two cupcakes (assuming there are different flavors) and 2-3 cookies. Not to brag but I would totally be able to eat that much, but I often see half-eaten dessert left on plates at events by guests whose eyes were clearly bigger than their stomachs.

The 1.5 cupcakes per person is a safer bet. To really be sure, I’d go with two per person. We had 144 cupcakes plus some assorted small desserts that came with our venue’s package for our 70 guests and we only had 12 cupcakes left at the end of the night. Some of our guests commented that they were eager to try a particular cupcake flavor and were sad to see other guests walking away from the dessert table with 3-4 of those particular cupcakes. So while some guests might completely skip dessert or behave like proper adults and only have 1-2 cupcakes, you should also be prepared that some guests might scarf down dessert like there’s no tomorrow!
